Why do FMX riders put grip tape oon the back of their forks between triple clamps?

i was admiring one of my many posters on my wall, and i noticed that a bike had grip tape on the back of the forks between the tripple clamps, then to my suprise 90% of the bikes on my wall do (i have about 23),

Does anyone know why this is done?

Maybe they are planning a trick and they have to grap the forks. Hmmmmmm, ive never noticed it though.

I'm thinking that you are talking about the suspension builder's sticker that states the suspension stats such as compression, rebound, etc...Not sure though.

as well as the stickers there's also Carbon fiber fork guards that you can slip over your fork tubes for protection against rock dings.

well then what is this here for, its not a sticker of the munufacturer

The reason they put grip tape on the fork tubes is to make it easier to hang on to the bike with their boots when they do cliff hangers.

If you ever get a chance to look at pastrana's bike some time, look at how much grip tape he's got on the frame and on the fork tubes. I had to start putting grip tape on my frame when i started to wear knee braces. It is a night and day difference. Also all you guys with steel frames can use grip tape to protect the paint. You can buy sheets of it from FX or just buy the skateboard stuff. They both work quite well (no matter how you do it tho its going to eat your pants up).

ya i also puy grip tape in my grab holes on the subframe and seat
