i'm sure you could get a good ramp angle from looking at x games pics etc.it doesnt have to be super perfect.jsut gradualy get's steeper, then maybe 2 ft wher it jsut goes at the same gradiant.

Heres a link to some plans but I think they are for wood ramps. Just convert the wood to metal and use a bit of imagination...and "baddabing"

Please don't recommend wood...too many good reasons not to.

For a dirt bike you'll want to build an eliptical ramp which means the tranny (ramp portion) isn't a section of a circle, it's more like an oval or an elipse (hence the name eliptical).

You'll need 20ft lengths of steel in two sizes, 0.083" thk 1"X2" and 0.120" thk 2"x2". The 2x2 will be used to form the base, the upright, cross braces for the base/upright and as reinforcement/support for the tranny during its transition (curve). The 1x2 will be used to form the tranny and as cross bracing for the face of the ramp. You can hand form the tranny so don't worry about bending it. Tips on that later. I have some dimensions of a proven design at home (Pro FMX material), so you'll have to wait until Mon. for those.

I can scale it to whatever size you want but the standard is 8ft tall with the departure angle being 37*. Remember that this is eliptical, so building a 37* angle straight ramp is NOT going to get you the same effect.

Wooden ones are cool, they are as strong as you make them.

There, I've said it again. YES, you can make a wooden ramp that will work. BUT, no matter how "cool" it is it won't be as strong or as sturdy as a steel ramp. A wood ramp will also consume more materials (not necessarily $$), be harder to work with, will require frequent maintenance and yield a lower quality product with a reduced life expectancy.

But, don't let that stop you from building a "cool" wooden ramp capable of producing life-threatening leaps through the atmosphere, the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] are always looking for new candidates.

So Faded, did you ever build that ramp of yours? I've given some thought recently to buying one from freeride tech...but the $$$ ....I'd even settle for a 6' if they even make those...Anybody ever see used ramps for sale cheap?

No, I built a house instead. I still have about 1/3 of the materials, all the know-how, no time and no place to put it...so it's been on the back burner. You can built them yourself for a lot less than what they sell for.

I talked to the owner of a track about 30min from my house about keeping my ramp on his property. He said no problem ( he's got a big mound of extra dirt..it's perfect) but I would need a mfg. stamp of some kind for liability issues. So I don't know if I could build it myself or not..what am I sayin... I solder weld
