Default Help With Landing!!!!!

Hi, I have a wooden ramp that is 6ft tall and 12 ft long with a 37 degree angle.
right now i have a 25ft gap.
landing ramp is only 5ft high, and like 30ft long and 16-18 degree angle.
roughly what do i need for my landing height and angle wise for a 35-40 ft gap?
with it at 25ft gap i'm in 2nd. gear, steady half throttle and seem to over shoot the landing and i'm about 5 ft above the top part of my ramp and with a stock yfz450, it kinda hurts my ankles.
before i had a dirt takeoff ramp that was only 4ft high and the landing was the same with a 45 ft gap.. so would that mean i need to make the landing at least 2-3 ft higher than the takeoff ramp?

Ok I will try to help as much as I can. I normally build everything by feel.

You have your self a FMX jump and it sounds like you have a long jump landing. Without seeing the actual jump and landing I cannot be for sure what you have. But I would say you need to inlarge your gap and increase your landing angle.

If you could post pics of the actual set up it would help. A good side shot of you jumping it would be best.

Your pics show that you are getting close to the right set up. I looked at the pic of the landing specs and that is what I would build.

Now if you change the gap to 45' you will need to go taller and longer. Also If you look at the landing pic you will notice a flat spot on top, this is for your safety. You will want that if you jump much farther. It would be nice even at 25'.

I will tell you what. I will draw it and post it for you. Give me a day or 2.

ok, thanks, since the picture i took, i have moved it back about 10 more feet, but when i built the wooden ramp i just made it 48'' wide, so my 450's wheels had about 2inches on each side, and I'm hit'n it mid 3rd gear and got to one edge one time and about did a barrel roll so i think i'm going to widen it another 5-10 inches, and that will boost my confidence also.
I still keep overshooting the landing even that i moved it back, and I'm also running out of dirt so i'm probably have to take the trackhoe over to a pond and get some more good dirt form the bank, i need to patch holes in a few pond damns anyway.

I agree w/D3luxe. Helmet is a must. I mean no disrespect but I cannot support unsafe riding practices. Please wear a helmet!!!!!!

It looks to me like all you need is a little height and some shaping done to your landing. Once you get the landing shape right. you can just keep moving the ramp back insteed of rebuilding a landing.

Drawing coming soon

Here ya go NEO. This is thirty foot gap(end of ramp to begining of sweet spot on landing)
Understand that you jump at your own risk. Where you land is intirely up to you and bike control. I would start close and as you "MASTER" a gap then move your ramp back.
1/8 scale = 2ft to each square

ok, thats about what I have now after I have got more dirt, and I wear a helmet most or all of the time i ride, and i'm not trying to support unsafe riding practices, and I understand the consequences that can happen when you ride unsafe.
Thanks for the help and the concern of safe riding.

I am glad to hear you normally wear a helmet. Let us see a pic when you get done with it. I watched some of your other vids.

Have a good one.

Looks like you are pretty darn close. It will work for now. But you may find as you move the ramp back you may need to make some adjustments to the landing.

SO: When are you going to widen your ramp. That thing scares me

ya, you should try hitt'n it, i looked on the web and different ramps, and i thought they said 48inches but that must meant for 2 wheels and not 4.... I'm going to make a metal ramp when i get the $$, this wooden one was mostly to find out what angle and size i wanted to go.. and i probably won't be jumping no more than 45-50 that being 50 is the max.
I have some old oil tanks that are 12 feet diameter and 10 feet tall that are made out of 3/16 inch metal and just split them and use the sheets for the face of the ramp and just use tubing for the frame, and i can make it as wide as i want, probably go like 7 feet wide, and keep it at 6 ft tall

I have made the ramp wider to almost 6 feet and made the gap to like 36-38 is pretty smooth I need to move back another 5-7 feet more and will help on the landing i think.

thanks for the help, I now have another problem.. my landing is back to close to the creek, and I'm got not much room to get my speed up consistently but the farthest gap i'm gong to go is like 45 ft i think any more than that i won't have enough room to get speed up safely and smooth... now i gotta get some balls and try some tricks.. what would be easy learner trick? I have tried a heel clicker and just can't get my feet above the handlebars, I'm not that flexible i think..
