Default Good bike for mud

     

Hey guys n gals
Im basically a noob and Im looking to get my first nice bike
right now I have an 06 gio110 and its just isn't taking what im giving it
Im not much for speed Im more a trail and mud, I like mud and getting dirty so i want a bike that will not crap out or flood easily
Im not too sure on if I want a two or four stroke, like I said Im ok with not going crazy fast, don't think I have the balls just yet for it lol

I likely will be getting used
I really like the KLX125 and YZ125
btw Im like 5'4" and 140 if that helps

A mate of mine had an 04 yz 125 and he loved it on the trails. My cr 125 is pretty good with it too. The klx may be more suited to trails but the yz should be easily capable, and can be smashed around an mx track with ease too.

seems like a 125 wouldn tbe that great unless you geared it down and got some bottom end torque.

a kdx200 or a honda xr might be good.

idk if id go with a newer 4 stroke since they run pretty hot if your going slow, like under 15 mph

If you like to stick to the trails and want a bulletproof machine I would look into an xr250. If you want bigger the xr400 is a good trail machine as well.

yeah out of all the bikes ive owned my xr500 was one of my favorites. that and my cr250.

the xr though, while it was pretty porky, was great for trails. i took it through a petty tight, rocky riverbed and i could let it idle around in first and all i had to focus on was maneuvering instead of throttle control.

ive never ridden a xr250 but id imagine it would be more of the same. low end torque, slow revving, super easy to ride, etc.

as soon as i finish my foxbody im getting an xr600 for dual sporting and riding around in the desert, since my cr250 cant really be made street legal. also another great thing about xr's is the fuel range.

I have had about all the xr's and still have a few. For the first step up if even considering the KLX125 you should look at the xr200. it lacks a disk brake, but the forks off the older xr250 go right on and have the disk brake setup. I took the 41mm forks off my xr250 and put on 47's. lots of people did so the conversion to the 600 dollar xr200 is cheap.

dont know much about the newer 230 other than it is heavier and has electric start.

the xr250 is great, as is the 400. I still have a 250, 500, and 600.

what would I pick if I were considering it again? kdx200/220. Probably because I don't have one. (FYI my current project is a crf250r with the crfx transmission).
