Bbr, what's up with the assault engine?

Cowboy, don't feel bad. This proxr is now 10 years old, and only has 1180 miles on it- 180/year.. I only have about 50 miles on a sled this year..

Launched bad, put a hole in the bottom of the PTO side case, broke the ear off the bottom of the cylinder. The problem is when they put some of the cranks together the PTO side journal is advanced 30-40 thousandths thus advancing the timing causing detonation. Polaris still to this day thinks is a fuel issue. They have had 3-4 ecu re maps but every one I have done as been the crank being advanced. Never had one come back since rebuilds. This was more common in the dragons.

I bought a brand new sled last fall and I've put 129 miles on it... how can I NOT feel bad? Hasn't even left the garage this year

Hmm I've never heard the issue explained that way, very interesting!

Where did I get 180/year from? Way off, it's actually 118/year.
I didn't ride a sled once last year. Iv rode twice this year, and with the temps being in the 40-50f range and a lot of rain.. Our snow is going away fast.

Bbr, I know we had real bad luck with the 2012 800's. everything from con rods granading, cranks breaking between the clutch and the pto seal, and most of the sleds that came back had bad scoring on the intake skirts. The polaris reps actually flew up here and checked out all the blown up engines at all the dealerships to try figuring out why so many were letting go with under 1k miles. Their theory was the injectors were washing the oil off the skirts.

Checked the assault crank today. Usually they're about 0.040 out of phase. This one is 3/16 of an inch out of phase on the pto side!

Good grief, that's pretty sloppy workmanship. I'm surprised the crank builder and/or Polaris doesn't have tighter QC... I'd be ashamed to let something that poorly constructed out the door if it were my business!

I'm a die hard polaris fan, but I will admit the QC definitely needs improved in the engine department. Iv had good luck with 6/700's but don't know anyone that has made a 800 twin last.

I never could understand how in 14 years now Polaris has been incapable of producing anything over 700cc with any sort of a decent reliability record... but their smaller mills are reliable as heck. Makes no sense.
This is why I want to get a 600 Pro for my wife when funds permit.
