Recluse Ride report I am an old coot, trying to get back into motocross. Not so much to race but for the joy of riding and finding that Zen feeling I used to feel when I raced when I was young. I don’t get on the track as much as I want and I never seem to advance in my riding because of the length of intervals between outings to the track. One of the problems with lack of advancement is arm pump when riding aggressively. Ill go out on the track and after a couple of laps I have to pull off to revive my left arm especially. I normally ride with one or two fingers on the clutch at all time and I am constantly feathering in hard turn situation.
So with that said, I installed the Recluse Z start clutch on my 01 CR250 last week and was able to take it to the track yesterday. All I can say is yeeeeeeeee haaaaaaa. I was able to stay on the track longer, run faster and was able to set up for jumps much quicker. You can scream down the straight away, lock it up in any gear, slam through the corner and crank her on and there is no bog, no feathering of the clutch just hang on and go. Of course if you come in 4th, she’s going to lug out of the turn, but anywhere close to the right gear and it is screaming. I got a little over my head with this new found control and was passing another rider, him on the outside of the turn and me on the inside. I had taken the turn with the back brake slightly on, in second gear, and had the revs just above idle when I hit the throttle hard. Even with me on the tank, the bike reared up and shot out of the exit. All this with all fingers wrapped around the handlebars.
So you never have to touch the clutch if you don’t want to. You always can pull in the clutch if you want to break the back end loose.
5 stars for this device, I only wish that they had the pro-start for my year bike. The clutch feel on the Z start is a little strange and the pro-start has the same feel as stock.
