Default Suzuki LTA50 - Urgent Help

Please please please can someone help me before I go mad or worse take a large hammer to oyr much loved LTA50.

Last year she was running OK, little sluggish but OK. Winter came along and I decided to do a rebuild on it, all OEM parts.

- New head
- Piston
- Cylinder
- New Exhaust (has a small hole in the old one)
- New Spark Plug
- Gaskets etc
- Full carb clean out
- New filter
- and all new high quality fluids

OK.............3 days on and SHE WILL NOT START. I can not work out why

- Carb appears OK, set to manufactuers spec. only difference is its fully clean
- Plug is sparking perfectly

I pull and pull and pull and pull.................pull again and still it will not fire.

Am I missing something, please help I'm lost

It sounds like you are not getting fuel into the engine.
Try starter fluid to see if it will fire up. If it fires up ( will die quickly) then you do have a fuel delivery problem.

Along with a lot of hair pulling

---------- Post added at 10:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:58 PM ----------

I'm so lost with WHY this will not start.

- High quality plug and getting a great spark no probs, even tried tiny bit of fuel in the top the end to help it on it way, nothing.

- Just done a compression test, getting just over 5 kg/cm2, pretty good.

- Fuel is also going into the carb......not sure if its getting into the engine or not. I dod not a small amount of fuel in the air filter box

Something to note, I now you will know the answers, I hope.

I have the LTA50 around 2002. The head it was originally fitted with was like this http://images.esellerpro.com/2757/I/...4012-0F0_B.jpg - if has the brass niple on with a black pipe on (not sure where this went to or what it was for)

The new cylinder I was given by the dealer was like this http://partdiscounter.com/media/cata...nder-kit-7.jpg - with no nipple

What is this for?? where should it be connected? manual does not say and the guy in shop said dont worry its a breather, not really needed

Also, there are two connects on the fuel swtich/fuel cock - manual says one is fuel other is a breather. Does the breather need to be connected to anything?

Any help all will be a life saver.

If you do a search on this forum, I know the topic has been brought up before. I can't recall exactly what the extra tube or line to the head was for, but it was a known issue on the LT50 that others have bypassed.

Again...Try it with "starter fluid" sprayed into the intake and see if it will fire. If it will fire then you know for sure the engine is not getting fuel to the engine.
If I recall correctly there are 2 positions on the fuel petcock. One for starting and one for running. I seem to further recall that they had to use the engine vacuum to get the fuel to start flowing, then when running it would flow correctly if in the run position.
I am concerned that the mismatched parts may be the route cause for the starting issue.

Has it even tried to run with fuel or starting fluid ? From what I read in my shop book it does not look like there's any adjustment with the timing here's a few pics of the stator and mag. Also some info on the vacuum for the petcock and carb rebuild.
