Got the tod end all done and In the breakin process...Today when Rockey and I where riding(low revs) the idle started to "surge" vrooom, vroom vroom, then it would slowly die down and shut off. We are pretty sure the rings have seated, We are stumped on this one.

You still have compression? Are you sure you didn't foul the plug?I foul alot of plugs wit the richer jetting i use for breaking in a smoker.

Plug is fine, plenty of compression, it only happens when hot

air leak

i'm surprised rockey didnt think of that!!

definately sounds like an air leak to me... make sure the reed cage is on there good and the carb is all seated and junk....

could be water in the gas sticking to the pilot jet, or the carb could have crud in it as well...

check real hard for an air leak, could be in the head gasket, reed cage, base gasket, or on the boot between the carb and reed cage.

Already checked for an air leak...Idled it high so it wouldnt stall and sprayed starting fluid everywhere...The carb might need a cleaning...I think the pilot might have some crap in it...We didnt clean it after we put it back on-looked like it would be fine...

Then after lunch today, we started it again when it was all cooled down, got it to riding temp, and it didnt do it anymore.

I think its fine...Keep in mind this is only at an idle...when riding it is fine.

Cant wait to get my Raptor.

just take the float bowl off and spray in there with carb clean, sounds like a bit of water in the gas.

the water could just be sitting somewhere else...

dont chance it. If the water droplet or a small peice of crud gets stuck in a jet while you are riding, you will get a sudden lean condition, and that fresh new topend of yours will be history!

Its not that hard to clean the carb... shouldnt take you 5 minutes if you just loosen the boots, tilt the carb sideways, remove the bowl, and give it a squirting with carb cleaner.

That high idle is most likely a temporaty lean condition being caused by something slowing down the fuel flow.
