Default LTA50 will not start - help

First of all, thank you for all your help in all these forums. This is the first time I have posted a question becuase every answer is usually out there.

I have a 2004 LTA50 that will not start. I bought it this way thinking that it has to be easy to fix. I replaced the carb, the top end with a new piston and rings, machined the head .020", and replaced the spark plug. All fuel and vent lines are new as well. The restrictor is out of the intake and exhaust. I removed the first pilot jet and installed a 75 main jet as per many threads here.

I cannot get it to even try to run. I have lots of spark and have tested the generator and coil as per the service manual and they is all within specs for voltage and resistance. I have tried carb cleaner directly in the spark plug hole and nothing. I have tried it without the exhaust thinking maybe there is some restriction, and still nothing.

I pulled the flywheel and the key in the crank to the rotor is still good and in place.

I have great compression (thanks to the milling), great spark, and carb cleaner still won't make it hit a lick. I have eliminated the carb by using the carb cleaner in the SP hole and am just amazed. I have never seen a two stroke do this, ever!!

Please help and give me some other areas to check. There isn't that much to go wrong, I didn't think.

Thanks in advance for your help.

James

That is really wierd..........

I know you said you checked the flywheel key, but are you sure the timing isn't off somehow?

All you need is spark, good fuel, correct air/fuel mixture, compression, and timing.

Never tried carb cleaner in the sparkplug hole before. I have always used starting fluid. I would assume however, that either one would work?

Can you keep your finger sealed against the sparkplug hole when cranking it over?

The compression is really good. It blows your finger right off. I took this site's advice and milled 0.020" off the head to help increase compression.

I don't know any other way the timing could be off, but maybe someone here has some ideas.

Boy, I am really at a loss here.....
Sounds like you've checked everything...

Hopefully someone else can stop by and lend a hand. I'm kinda out of suggestions at this point.

However, seeing this is your first post, welcome to ATM!

Maybe try putting it all back together, and pull it behind another ATV to see if it will fire up??
