Default LT50 Starts fine but dies once it gets warm

Great forum guys - lots of interesting info.

We had a LT50 for a few years and it has been fine.

Got it out of the garage this year to sell it as the kids are too big for it now.

It started on the 3rd pull and the buyer rode it up and down the street with no problems.

Later that night he called me to say that the engine dies when it get hot.

I have tried cleaning out the jets and swapping the fuel. The float is working OK and there is fuel getting through to the carb. I have tried moving the choke up and down as the engine starts to die - that action keeps the engine running a little longer. I can also keep the engine running by pumping the throttle.

I have checked the function of the diaphragm pump on the fuel tap - the is fine.

I can restart the engine straight after it dies and it runs OK for 30 secs or so before it starts to die again.

It is -5degC if that gives any clues?

Can anyone provide any more words of wisdom please?

Default LT50 - still dies when it get hot

Update:

I have flushed all the fuel and replaced with new fuel and good quality oil.

I have recleaned all the carb

I have fitted a new spark plug

Effect is: more difficult to start. Runs better. Still dies when the engine gets hot. Almost impossible to restart once it dies. It is possible to keep it running by pumping the throttle

The choke is working fine (local bike shop suggested I check that).

Doesn't look the quad has been de-restricted in anyway so it shouldn't be a jetting issue.

This one is starting to get frustrating.

Can anyone help please?

Moto

I had the same problem on an 84 lt50, I was also frustrated and finally pulled off the gas tank and cleaned it, i got out bugs, sticks, but most importantly I pulled out (found) the filter that goes on top of the petcock that attaches to the tank, it slides into the top of the petcock and then you slide the petcock back imto the tank, It is so much nicer now not having to clean the carb every 5 to 20 minutes, No problems since. I hope this helps.
