Reliability of a Tecate 4

Greetings and salutations all,

I realize wondering this at this stage is kinda pointless as I've already sorta passed the point of no return... but a comment someone I met has me worried...

How reliable is the Tecate 4? What issues might I need to watch out for? How does it stack up to the fabled R's in the long term?

I'm going to build the thing up, but from what this aquaintance was saying about them they sound like utter garbage... I have too much invested in this bike for that to be true... hopefully

I had a buddy with one that he rode for years without any issues and it was nowhere near stock. I don't know that it is as reliable as the 250R Honda, but I doubt it's far off.

I have not heard as these things tend to be rare!

Not often that you see a Tecate out running around, though I heard they were the fastest in their day!

what's your weekend plans?

I've still not recieved my front brakes for my Tecate, but my rear is functional and I did recieve a good shock (Though it seems really stiff in the dampening department :/ ) I'm going to have what I have for the Tecate buttoned together on friday and I will be taking it out to play this sunday no exceptions

I bought a new one back in 1987. It would blow the wheels off of a 250r. I also smoked every banshe, Till my top speed was hit. Banshee's would go faster but not quicker. I would love to have another one.

There is a difference between fast and longevety, Many of the real fast machines are grenades... I'm hoping my green beast isn't one of them..

How did your t-4 hold together for the long haul? Fast isn't really as important to me as not pushing my quad from the middle of the dunes, I will probably in the end put it together more for fun in the sand then racing (though I gotta have the racing look, it's calling to me... just call me the green poser )

from what ive heard and experienced there really reliable and super fast like holy smurf better tape my hands down fast parts r easy to find dont listen to people about them being hard to find parts for and if u want up to date info on them and a huge resource for parts got to kawieriders.com and click on tecate if its parts u want just speak with rockhound but if its a big bore kit email dave roberts or go to cycleworksracing.net for more parts there a fun and super fast bike i hope u like it.
