Not sure if I can help as I have never owned, or worked on one of these ATVs.

well i have read about the baffle in the exhaust and its removal. would that actually give it a little more power by removing it?

Deffinetely, will throw off your jetting though. Might just be able to get by without rejetting with messing with your air/fuel screw

As was mentioned, you can probably get a fair amount more power by doing this as long as you re-jet the carb.

Something else to think about, is moving up to an LT80. They are relatively inexpensive to get a decent used one, and sometimes you can also find them with upgrades already done! That is the route I think I would go if I were in your shoes.

Sell off the 50cc and get a used 80 for a few $$ more.

JMHO.

Best advice he could've given, if your concerned on making anything faster on an lt50 trust me sell the 50 and go buy a used lt80 two stroke. I know for certain my local shop has two of them on the floor right now..the 80 blows away the 50 in everything; parts, info, speed, mod options

yeah that day will be coming soon. he's only been riding for about three weeks now, so until i see him full throttle everywhere he goes on it, he's staying on the 50. he has to aquire so respect for motor vehicles before i get him anything faster. right now, i'm gonna let him crash that 50 as many times as possible!

My bad. From your question, I thought you were trying to make it faster.

You can still go with the LT80 and use the throttle limiter.

Something else to think about.

no, its cool. that was on my mind, thinking about trying to squeeze as much life outta this little guy as i can before i gotta buy another one. the laws in michigan are weird about atv's for kids. after this four wheeler i will move him over to a dirt bike though, so he can ride with me and mine. all in all, though, the question still remains, can i get a little more hp out this thing if i get rid of the baffle in the exhaust?

Yes, I am sure you can. You will need to rejet the carb though. You may also be able to open up the intake a little.
