Default Bayou 220 choke ineffective

I have a 1992 Bayou 220, it is very difficult to start when cold, the choke seems to do nothing at best or make it harder to start. After it is started the choke kills the engine rather than helps it maintain idle. The manual states there is no adjust for the choke. Is there a jet or soemthing? Thanks in advance for suggestions

Hey we have that same 4 wheeler!! maybe a yr or so later model. Been through some very ROUGH moments, and one of or dogs ate the seat off of it, but we fixed that. Still runs perfect!! Its a dark teal blue, I didn't think anyone else had one! lol

I probably cant help with your choke issue, but I do know a VERY similar problem was going on with my hubby's Honda foreman, and it turned out he had to replace the choke cable.

She means CHOKE cable.

If your bike is running and the you choke it and it dies then that is not abnormal. If its warmed up and you choke it all the way it could kill it.

Is the bike wanting to die and feels like its not warmed up? You need to give more detail. You could have a bad choke cable. You need to unscrew it from your carb and see how it functions when you pull the choke knob.

I assume you have a remote mounted choke lever ont he handlebar.

When the bike starts up, but is still not warmed up, it kills the engine. Please expand on "bad choke cable", the cable operates the choke plunger. My understanding is the cable is usually okay or broken, since there is no adjustment. However, I am still open for suggestions. And if I still have not given enough info, please let me know- I'll try again.
THANKs!

Make sure your filter is in good shape. That last time I wne to clean the filter on our 97 bayou the filter was lieterally falling apart. will you r bike run well once its warmed up? If not and you choke cable isn't stuck then you may need a carb rebuild. It is 15 years old and I don't know what its been through.

Also, make usre you have a good plug - a weak plug will have a yellow spark and will want to die when ever you give it more fuel.

you're right- I needed to give more info- the bike runs real well when warmed up, I did rebuild the carb, it was gummed up real bad and wouldn't even start when I got it from the farmer that had it sitting under his tree. The filter and plug are near new. When I rebuilt the carb I do not remember anything being installed or replaced regarding the choke. Is any of that helpful for more ideas. Thanks again

If it runs well when warmed up then nothing is wrong with the carb. Sounds like a choke issue. Try to diagnos whether or not it is moving up and down in the carb like it should. Look to see of the cable is sticking or separated any where. Make sure the slide at the end of the cable (part that goes in the carb) is in correctly. I know on my foreman it had grooves and had to be put in one way.

One more thing to look for. On my honda the choke cable sleeve came apart where it attached to the knob. The bike woud run fine but I had choke problems likeyou have until I finallly to the cable off and looked at it. There has to be something keeping the plunger from sliding like it should.

I have the exact same model not same year but same problem! It was like that once I bought and never figured it out it has good filter, plug, & runs good once warmed up. Whats funny is no matter who I meet I'm the only one who knows how that thing trully works and how to get in its week spots. I have never figured the choke out think it is just a bad carb setup in the first place I guess but I'm clueless
