Axle Removal

Hey Guys,

I own a 05 KFX 400. I have been working on removing the axle so that I can change out the bearings for 3 days now. I FINALLY got the two nuts off on the left (sprocket) side, removed the sprocket, chain, sprocket holder, and brake caliper. The axle is ready to come off. The problem is the flippin thing will not come off. I started out mild, using a rubber mallet trying to get it out. I then graduated to putting a small piece of wood over the end and beating on it with a regular sized hammer. I just finished putting a 2x4 over the end and beating it with a sledge hammer taking pretty good whacks at it (while spraying PB Blaster). The axle busted through the wood and did not budge from the housing. What am I missing?

only reason ill chime in is...I went through the same crap with my yfz.... hope its close to the same steps as the kawi...only I was lucky and was putting a new axle in so if the old one got damaged...I didnt care

The only thing youre missing is...hit it harder.

I had to take my bearing carrier out of the swinger and slam the axle on a block of wood WOOOSH axle went flying

Just bang the crap out of...only thing you need to worry about are the splines so make sure you protect those
