Wheel spacers would certainly make the bike handle better, if wider is what you are looking for.

As far as them being a good option for obtaining a wider stance for you quad... that's debatable. Think about it. By adding the additional distance to the ends of the axle, you have increased the leverage ratio, but the axle strength remains the same. So, yes it would now be easier to bend the axle. Don't mean you will necessarily, but it would be easier then before.

if you are riding hard enough to need the extra width the spacers give you... you might just buy a wider axle, you will need one eventually, when you now ride harder thanks to the new stability and bend the stock axle (which normally is prone to bending anyways if you ride hard )

Think of it this way, you have just saved you the money the spacers cost, and your stock axle is straight and able to be Ebayed whereas a bent axle is just that... bent and basically worthless

I have heard very few who have wheel spacers who have been unhappy with them, however as mentioned, you do run a greater risk of bending the axle due to the extra stress. Just FYI....A stock axle isn't worth jack anyway, so if you bend it, oh well, then buy you a decent axle, then at that point the spacers were a waste of money. You just never know, but if that is all you can afford, then I say go for it.
I can set you up with a good pair for anywhere from $70 - $90 depending on the width and bolt pattern if you are interested.

i have some flush valve stems for my front wheels. it allows me to flip the front wheels around and widen it out like off set wheels do. you can re-drill the holes for the stems on the inside of the wheels, plug the other holes by turning another set of stems inside out. for the rear, i sugest getting an extended axle. if it bends, you still have the stock one to slip in while the aftermarket one is fixed( most companies offer a warintey(SP) and will straightenif less then .187" tir, if more it will be replaced for free. but next time it will cost you some $.) i have a Durablue 2+2 which is adjustable from stock length to 2+2. very strong and comes with a sprocket mount. if you want to go cheaper, the also make wheel spacers. i know a guy that has ran front and rears all season for mx racing jumping real big and riding hard. he said they WILL hold up to that kind of riding. pretty much all you have to do is inspect them before and after each ride for cracks or other flaws. hope this helps.

I want to add one more thing about adding wheel spacers to the front or even flipping your wheels around. It does create more bump steer. A-arms of course are the best way to widen the front and of course the most expensive.
