the 400Ex sounds like the one for me. One of my friends has one and he is smaller than i am. I was just looking around and the Suzuki Z400 looks very simmular ohow do these to compare?

The Z is way better then the 400EX. Liquid cooled, and reverse to add..Alot faster too.

I agree the Z is a more up to date machine then the 400ex.

Better suspension, faster, and I think they even have reverse?

The Z would definitely be a better choice if you're buying new, but if you don't want to spend as much, just buy a souped up 400EX, they're out there and they're cheap. Z400 suspension is no better than the 400EX, the only thing in my experience better is the power and it has reverse.

Wow, I thought the handling/suspesion of the Z was supposed to be superior to the 400?

From my own experience, I think the Z400 handles a little better. The front end feels a little lighter, but if you're buying a used bike, I think the 400EX is not a bad choice. It's not that big of a difference.

I had a 2002 Kawi Mojave and I now own a 2000 Honda 400ex. The Mojave has reverse, the warrior and 300ex do too but the 400ex doesn't. The Warrior, 300 and 400 ex have electric start, Mojave doesn't. Mojave, 300ex and 400ex all weigh about the same, the Warrior weighs more that the other 3. The Mojave and Warrior haven't changed suspension since they were designed way back in 1987. The 300ex and 400ex have more updated suspension with the 400 being most recent at 99. Z400 is not included in this comparison since it is still new and hard to find them for a good deal used yet. (I assume we're talking used here). The Mojave is liquid cooled twin overhead cam while the rest are Air cooled (400ex is oil cooled too) with single cams. For woods riding, the Mojave has excellent handling, I would say comparable or better than the 400 even. Jumps, wide open trails, etc the 300ex and 400ex get the nod because of their suspension. The Warrior is a good rock solid machine, but the suspension is out of date and they are heavy. Mojave and 300ex have been dynoed at 17 rwhp, the Warrior at 21 and the 400ex at 27-29.

I can't speak for the Warrior or 300ex, but I have GPS verified the Mojave at 59mph before th rev limiter kicked in multiple times. I haven't GPS'd the 400 at more than 62 but I haven't been able to open it up yet either.

Bang for your buck, toss up between Mojave and Warrior (used prices $1500-$3000 for a decent machine). The Hondas are more money used, partially because of their reliability. All 4 are reliable machines. If money is no object, go 400ex. If budget is important, the Mojave is REALLY hard to beat. I got my 2002 as a second owner for $2700 from a dealer....it's almost impossible to find the other 3 for that price for a good condition 2002.

Thanks for the compliment. I actually am a member of CTRiders.com...an ATV group from CT that gets together for rides at multiple locations in CT, Mass, VT and NH....

I think the Mojave gets unfairly trashed by people that have never ridden it, or compare it to something that costs double. It's a great learner machine and compares pretty well to the 300ex besides the electric start, but its often $500-1000 cheaper for the same year used. It ran great for me but since I'm 5'10" and 180 lbs, I wanted something a little bigger. I found a post on this site regarding the 400ex throttle adjustment only being 70% from Honda....BOY WERE YOU GUYS RIGHT! Holy crap...my 400 wheelies in 3rd now no problem!!! Totally different machine.

Great job on this site and I look forward to chatting with ya and giving you my $.02 from time to time.

Excellent... that is what we like to hear... Hopefully you won't limit yourself to only spending .02 cents since we usually prefer closer to .25 or so.

It's good to have you here.

Mojaves are excellent, I have a 1987 and it still runs strong. I enjoyed riding the Mojave in the woods over my old LT...Its an EXCELLENT woods machine and it doesnt get the respect it deserves. Yeah, the suspention is out dated, but the short wheelbase and not to wide make it an awesome wooods machine. My .02
