trailblazer 250

here's the thing i just got a trailblazer 250 engine with the cdi and stuff to make it run, this motor is for a project i am working on and need to make sure it runs before i invest my time and money into it. all i need to do is get it all hooked up and make sure it sparks. i plugged in the cdi and the coil turned it over and no spark. i don't have the rest of the wiring so i am at a loss of what the three other wires are and where they go. there is a solid yellow, yellow with a red stripe, solid brown,coming out of the motor. there is a solid black that i believe is the kill wire coming out of the cdi. any help would be great. i would go buy a book to figure this out but im not sure i want to spend money on this motor. it does have over 100lbs of compression so the motor is good but i just need to make sure the electrics are good before i go any further thanks,

Go to any dealer and ask if they can print you off a wiring diagram. Do you have the key switch and all that? If not, maybe that is the one thing you need. If you don't have a switch on, or killswitch hooked, it will be like trying to fire it up with the plug wire off. Get a diagram though and check them out. Should tell you what they are for. But the wires DO sound like they go to a key switch or similar part.

ok can someone tell me how this ignition system works....i don't understand how the coil gets a signal to fire.....i know that most if not all ignitions need some kind of signal to fire this one seems to not have one...am i missing something? i took of the flywheel to test the coils figuring that i might find a pulser coil and or a points system... but no such luck could someone please explain what i am missing thanks,

first thing we need to know is what year are we talking about? most have an alternator with CDI, the coil and magneto will create the pulse threw the CDI. but knowing what year will help alot.

Goto bikebandit.com and look at the entire ign system components. I didnt get spark on my trailblazer till i got a new ignition. The red wire at the iginiton is constant and the red/white(I beleive) was the IGN power.
