Unhappy Cold Blooded TrailBoss 330

I just purchased my wife a new 330 Trailboss. My problem is I have to run it on full choke and continually give it throttle for about 10 minutes, that's how long it takes to warm up so it will idle on it's own. Anyone have the same poblem or have a solution.?

Is that a four stroke? Does it start well? Sounds like a possible jetting issue? If it's a four stroke, I would check the valves.

Re: Cold Blooded TrailBoss 330

I have a 2000 trail boss 325, four stroke, if your's is new go to the dealer and get it fixed by them. Between moving and kids etc... I let maintenance fall by the wayside and here 4 years later I am changing the oil for the second time,, 1st new spark plug, gearcase fluid change, new air filter, tightened chain. it;s like new and i have never had a problem, even with my neglect. so my advise is that the machines are bullet proof so if something like that is off, then bring it back for a tuning, because it 's not right. I only need half choke for a 30 sec. in any cold conditions and then i can go on my way.

One of my friends bought a Trail Boss just a couple months ago. His is only bad if its really cold out. Other than that it's just fine. I'd say take it back to the dealer and they should fix it for free if you just got it.

I have seen a lot of this lately. Most street bikes are like that now days, they run them so lean from the factory it's not funny.
The fix is simple
Adjust the mixture screw.
Usually 1/2 turn richer is enough, sometimes more, sometimes less, but that will fix you up.
Depending on what side of the carb the screw is on (engine or air box) turning the screw out can either richen or lean the pilot setting.

Most all 4 strokes have the mixture screw on the engine side of the carb.
If the screw is on the ENGINE side of the carb (looking at it from the side) turn it out to richen it.
If the screw is on the air box side, turning it in will richen it.

I don't know if you should do that. If you don't know how to ajust a carb properly you can really mess it up.

Remember the choke is acutally an enricher valve

You can't really mess anything up by adjusting the mixture screw . From the factory most all carbs are set a 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 turns out from a seated position but that going to work everywhere. I bike in canada and one on california are going to need different settings

If you turn the screw out 1/2 a turn and it's worse turn it back in 1/2 turn.

The problem is the pilot circuit jetting being too lean. That's why it runs better with the enricher out (with the choke) until it's hot. A lean mixture takes much longer to warm up the a rich mixture.

All 2 strokes and 4 strokes need to be slightly adjusted for air temp and altitudes etc thats why the mixture screw is easily adjustable from the exterior of the carb.
