tryin to buy 14.1 acres to put a house and a small track on and i need a mower . was wondering if any of you all have or have used one of these pull behind mowers that you can attach to the back of a ATV . a company called Swisher makes several models with different brands of engines on them , let me hear your guys opinions ?

If you don't have limited slip on the rear and the front in 4x4 mode the quad will tear up lawn. Wouldn't matter that much in a field of weeds. Swisher also sales plows, loader buckets, etc. that mount on a front univeral plate that can be used for lighter duty stuff.

they are alright ive seen some used but the quads always had turf tamers on the rear and smoother nobbies on the front. If you go slow they cut fairly nice not a professional mower cut but close. Good luck.

Those are interesting. Do they make a quad that has a differential in the rear? I would think the quad would rip the lawn up.

For up to $3200, spend a little more and get a Kubota with a front end loader so you can use it for track maintence as well.

Most of your utility ATVs will not tear up a lawn. They will leave tracks but that'd be about it. I'd recommend going with a newer Yamaha, Kawasaki, or Suzuki since they have independant rear suspension (read differentials) and differential locks for the front end.

You need yourself a YAMHA terra-pro Hard to find though. As far as i know they were one of the only 2wd atv with a locking rear diff and a live PTO. Perfect for lawn cutting. When I worked for yamaha we had one that we used to cut the dealership yards with. If you use a utility quad I found it's best to attach them to the front. heavy utility quads tend to mash down the grass then after a few days you have high spots where the tire makrs were. having the mower infrom will eliminate this problem. The mower I run for a freinds lawn care service is a home mad job using an sears riding mower deck and a 6hp Honda engine. It hooks up to the front of his ATV (Honda fourman 500)and uses the winch to raise and lower the mower.

I've run a 48" zero turn Simplicity citation (by Farris) for a couple seasons now. Bullet proof designs and well worth every penny. $7000 CND It was treated to Amsoil lubricants at new and has never had a single problem unlike out JDeere's that are always breaking down. plus it's FAST. (aprox 10mph) IMO if you want somthing built to last go with a dual hydro ststem and it must have a filter system and reservoir for the hydraulic fluids.. the down fall to most lawn equipment is HEAT and DIRT. A filters hydro sytem with quality fluids will eliminate any problems. Zero turn is the way to go IMO

I just got a new Cabelas catalog that had all sorts of pull behind and front mounted mowers for ATV's. You might want to check them out if you live close to one.
