In the sand dunes you should defenatly have paddle tires if you dont you will hardly move at all or maybe even get stuck in it

Paddles are a must in the sand. I actually have two sets of paddles, 1 for duning and 1 for dragging.

Yeah i grew up in the dunes if you want to win the race better have paddles even larger bikes without paddles are easy to beat. Id give skat trax a look they have some really nice paddles and if you often run into hard packed surfaces while duning they have a paddle with nobbies in the center which make them stronger.

I took my YFZ to the dunes without paddles, its not that big of a deal, yeah if your doing serious drag races you'll want them. you wont get stuck unless your trying to. If you are going to rides dunes alot you might as well get them, but if not I wouldnt worry about.

You won't be climbing many hills at our dunes without paddles.

I think they're necessary, however they are not critical. I have ridden many times in the dunes without paddles and you can still climb most everything, but your friends with paddles will be roosting all over you, then they have to wait while you catch up. Just get them if you ride dunes a couple times a year. I can get you a good deal on some ITP Sandstars if you're interested.

Those ITPs are pretty good all around dunning tires. Do okay when dragging too.

Personally I prefer a set of straight blades. Haulers or Extremes for me.

I run 20" paddles on 8" rims and it works great. Ricky4fingers has the same set on 10" paddles . Both of ours look nearly the same as far as rollout, but mine obvisouly have a bit more air space and may tend to be a bit more bounce. On the flip side the smaller rim is less prone to dents from rocks. I also run 21"s on 8"s and like that too. I guess I would say I prefer 8" over 10"s, but 10"s look nicer.

Dude Vinny, Its not a must to have paddles, especially at pismo. I have seen many people get around just fine without them but on the same note you are not maximizing your fun without them! You will enjoy it alot more with the paddles then without them! I have sandstars and they are a great all around paddle that hook up good and also let ya play around and stuff! My friends have sand sharks and they dont hook up as good but for the price they are plent fun! Hope this helps bro, later!
