Question firing problem...

Hi all you ATMers..

I have a little problem I need some input on.

I am finding it difficult to start my bike. It fires once then stops, winds and winds and sometimes starts. Most of the time it just coughs once then dies.

I am using recommended settings on my valve clearances as per Hotcams instructions.

Bike shop said it was the CDI so I replaced that but didnt fix it. Guess they dont really know.

Any ideas out there that could help?

Thanks people!

D

do you use choke? dumb ? but i sometimes forget on my 4 stroke and it does that. maybe your carb is stuck shut.
maybe you need to change your spark plug.
Thats a weird thing. It could be a lot of things.

Check the floats in both carbs and while you are at it clean the carbs. Also check the spark plug for the proper gap. Also make sure the chole cable isnt sticking.

thanks guys

I have decided to get a new plug, strip both carbs, clean my air filter, check the choke and floats and try again.

Any idea how many turns out on both (twin Carb) fuel screws I should be using?

Thanks
Derek

Did the problem start after doing a mod, or did it just one day do it?

Hi Woody!

It happened one day after about 6 months of good running after mods.

We went away for the easter break and it sat on a trailer in the rain for 3 days as the place we stayed at ended up having no garaging space. Though undesirable, that should'nt of been a problem for a bike of this age and type.

On the forth day we went for a ride and the problem was evident then.

I have just bought new plug and carb cleaner and am doing this now, any clues on the fuel screw adjustments?

Thanks
Derek

I don't know on the fuel screw adjustments, but it sounds like you're headed in the right direction.
