Default Exhaust valve timing gear

I have a 04 yfz, and I saw somewhere about turning the exhaust timming gear 1 tooth forward
or back. What does that do? Are there pros and cons? I'm attempting adjusting my valves this weekend,so I figured I'd do it then while it was apart.

im no expert, but that dont sound right to me, timing is a fairly critical setup. i think the factory setting would be the best choice, they are the experts.

Retarding the exhaust cam gives it the more aggressive dirtbike timing. Adds a couple more HP up top.

Check the Dogriders section here in the ATV section. I beleive there is a step by step instruction thread.

Thats actually not sad at all. Just attests to the fact that these things can be plenty fast even stock lol...

The only thing that you might have to do after the cam mod is to go up on the pilot jet one size. Stock is the 42, and going up to a 45 pilot is adviseable anyways for many applications.
