Since I am kinda new to the Sport Quad scene ( I have had Utility quads for about 5years) I am just wondering if the Heel guards are really necessary? I guess they could prevent your foot from being sucked in between the tire and peg and being ran over but does that really happen? I figure with my size 14 boot it would be hard to get between the peg and rear fender but maybe not. With all my Utility quads they have always had the floorboards I guess you could call them. So just asking the question on your opinion if they are necessary or not? I really like the stock ones I am just trying to find out how to lower my pegs.

I wouldn't ride to hard without heel guards or nerfs, I've slipped off/missed the pegs more than once and can't imagine not having the heel guards or nerfs to catch my foot.

I don't ride a quad but I'm compelled to post on this thread. The kind of riding you do has alot to do with the mods you need. If you race and ride hard in practice, you need every ounce of protection you can get. Buy the best and it will save you money in the long run. Don't count on the size of your boot to keep you out of trouble. My experience says, the bigger it is, the more exposed it is. Protect yourself. On the other hand, if you only ride trails for fun and never leave the ground, the risk factor goes way down. But even at low-percentage-risk, I say spend the bucks now rather than later.

Speaking from experience nerf bars will save you on many ocassions. I have landed both feet on one side before I have also sliped off the pegs with no nerf bars and landed on the axle luckly i was going down a 16' bank backwards so my arches rode the axle. Get nerf bars they are worth it they arent near as expensive as broken ankles.

Yeah, heel guards and nerf bars are a must have on a quad if you plan on jumping. I recommend the Pro Armor nerf bars. They're indestructible, and the heel guard is incorporated into the nerf bar. Not to mention they look sweet. I had them on my Z400, and loved them.

Heel guards are a must in my opinion. Nerf bars are a near must. I rode without nerfs for a couple years until I hurt my ankle pretty bad riding on a track, I've not ridden without nerfs since.

Well, for me, I never had them on my 250R, but I ride only at the dunes, and don't jump too high. That said, I have also run over my own leg/foot before with the 250R, though it didn't hurt as I had boots on. On the YFZ, I am probably going to leave them on as my passengers now have a place to safely place their feet as opposed to just the outside of the foot-peg.

when i first got my blaster, i didnt worry to much about it. but once i got tired of running my "big" feet over, i went and bought a pair. i had the stock heal gaurds and the were fine. if you value your ability to walk/run in a straight line and without pain, i reccomend getting a set of both. AC makes a great set but are pricey(pro pegs) also pro aluminum has some nice nerfs and heal gaurds. your best bet is to get a copy of dirt wheels, look thru, and see what suits ya. or go to a dealer and find some. be sure they are good and strong though. you dont want to break a pin and have one fall off while riding like i have seen some do.
