Has anyone ridden both the Honda 250ex and the Suzuki LTZ250 and have an opinion on them? Looking at one of them for the wife and kids to ride. I have ridden the 250ex quite a bit and it seems like a solid, good handling, dependable machine with enough power for the type of riding they will be doing (fire roads and trails, no mud or steep hills). I want shaft drive, auto tranny, "smaller" size and weight, 4wd not important. Or... would a small utility type quad perform and handle just as well and have the benefit of racks when you need them? Thanks for any opinions!

I have ridden the 250EX and was quite surprized at how snappy it was! It seems like a good choice. Have never ridden the Suzuki 250, but if it is anything like their 400, it should be a great quad also. Don't know if this helps or not, but It is my observation.

Why shaft drive?? as said before, full auto trannys are belt driven variable drive clutches, which don't work with shaft drive...unless u mean manual shift/auto clutch....

I have a 250EX and 2 of my friends have z-250's. I would reccomend the 250EX it's is alot more reliable and I think it handles alot better. They are pretty much even in speed so theres no isssue there. I say the EX.

i rode both and owned a 250ex and i would say 250ex. more reliable, the rear end doesnt look like a utlity quad and there is no speed issue at all. go for red even though im a suzuki fan

I wish I could remember who won, but Dirtwheels had a shootout for these quads a couple months ago and if memory serves me correctly, they both faired quite well, but the Honda came out on top. I know the 300EX won the shootout, but the 250EX and Z250 were also in it.

I own both, an 04 ltz250 and an 05 250ex and an 08 250ex the honda is head and shoulders above the zuki, the honda has alot more power and feels all around better quality (I really dont like the exposed drive shaft on the suzuki) the aftermarket is VERY limited on the suzuki I had the 04 and 05 for a couple years....... and needed another small trail quad, you see what I bought (the 08 250ex) the sport clutch is awesome, and the new 450r style plastics are great

Every comparison I have read indicates they are very close. We have had a 2002 250ex in our stable for a few years and it is VERY solid. It was pretty peppy stock but I put in the Powroll big bore kit, a more aggressive cam rocker, an after market pipe, and an after market ignition and it woke that thing up big time. But then we ride the dunes and need the power.

yeah, every shootout I read said the same thing................. (and I wouldnt have bought the zuki if I knew how wrong they where) I have had many sport quads (have 5 right now) and owned alot of dirtbikes im not being paid (like dirtwheels) to say one is better than the other, Im just telling you how the ones I own and ride compair my kids always argue about who "has to ride" the yellow one they know the difference too

Well I am glad I didn't get the zuk then. I was debating between the two when I bought the Honda. I would have guessed that they would be better than that as I have two highly modified Z400's that have been great for me. But first hand experience beats shootouts for sure.

I'd beg you to get a 300ex in my opinion but the 250ex is better than a z250. A 300ex or a kawasaki mojave would blow the wheels off the 250ex performance wise and easyness to find cheap parts. If you want something to use racks on get a sport quad and hunt down a rear rack for it, if your not towing and mudding you'll never regret it. Racks are sometimes hard to find and get back ordered often but go by a local mom and pop quad shop and they should help you out.
