Default xr600 life expectancy

i am thinking about buying an xr600 for light dual sporting and riding around the desert. i was curious as to what the service intervals were for this bike, like how often does the top end need to be rebuilt, etc.

There is not another dirt bike made that would outlast a good XR600 except maybe a 650 TR6C Triumph.
If it's fresh, check it every 10,000 miles.
You can take that to the bank......

The xr600 is a great bike.

First dirt bike I ever rode. Lots of fun.

In the early ones, if they are well maintained with regular oil changes 50K isn't unusual.

I scored this one with 8K miles on it last year. I'll have it forever.

This one is an '83. I'm normally not this lucky but this one had sat since being parked in '88. Being kick-only was what kept the original owner from riding it. As his sons became old enough to ride it they couldn't learn to start it either.
It's a one-kick bike as far as I'm concerned. If it takes two kicks it's my fault.

Yeah, and with two working decompression systems it's one of the easiest starting big-bores I've ever owned. My son weighs about 140 pounds and after a little instruction he has never had a problem starting it either.
