I try to and kinda get carried away sometimes, im very fortunate the lords blessed me enough to be able to get into motocross, and if i keep up with the oil changes, vavle adjustments, and the filter it will all be ok. I was very good with maintence on the bike and i just got slack on the oil, but it was its due time for the valves anyways, i got rip off with labor thats y it was so expensive

Where did we come up with a yz85? Oh, your a yammie guy, you forgot to mention you have to pull 12,000 rpms yikes!! I guess if the lil yz is pulling 29, my 450 ought to pull 100 eh

Whoa, no need to get your nuts in a bind. My mistake, the 85's make about 20-22 horses, and the 125's make 29-30ish. I used a YZ85 as example and I have ridden every brand of bike. You honda guys are funny, Id like to see your toolbox/ survival kit!

The 150R is a killer bike, I still get on my sons and I'm amazed at the power Honda was able to get out of that engine. It's no mystery that the high performance 4 strokes CAN be more expensive to maintain than a 2 stroke. But like mentioned, if you keep it maintained (filters, oil, etc) and don't rev it to death it helps considerably.

A bulk of the expense is having a dealer/shop do the labor. If I didn't know how to work on my own engines I'd consider going back to a 2 stroke. Both have their advantages for sure, but right know I'm enjoying the power out of my 450.

Last time I checked, my nutz were just fine bro. I don't carry any tools, I ride a Honda. As far as the survival kit goes, I just carry basic stuff. two guns and 10 knuckles LOL Honestly, I don't carry anything man. Not sure if that was a joke on your part on not?

So are you going to go back to a smoker? I don't think anyone would blame you either way. I would say if your doing alright on the 150, why not get a 125 2 smoker? I'd just hate to see you go back to an 85, don't think you would be happy after coming off the 150.

I rarely chime in on this old and tired debate....but it has nothing to do with 2 or 4 stroke. It is rider and how you maintain your bike. Oh yeah (those that know me expect this), it has EVERYTHING to do with the color of your bike!

Ride, have fun and be safe.

Well i'm surprized you only needed 2 new valves after chaqnging that oil every 30 hours. Look the 150r is notorious for valve issues ask anyone that races one, and Freak ole mate, the 150r is no faster or better than a good 85 in race trim, but what they are is dam expensive to buy and even more expensive to get up to race trim to compete and maintain. A fully preped 150r will cost you more than a 250f in the long run. That's why my boy races a YZ 85, change the jets put on a shorty tail pipe and 53 rear sprocket and wave bye bye to the 150's

The guy that owns litz racing in TN told me that i could run Rotela T, but i have switched around from bel-ray, factory honda, to that rotela oil and to tell u the truth i think that right there is what ate up the valves what do u guys think? And plus I hadnt changed that rotela T in like 30 hours so i think it was my own screw up but i cleaned and re-oiled the filter with maxima filter oil like every two rides...I'm buying a hour meter. I think it might be best after 25 hours or so, to take the head off and clean it all out? Maybe this will keep these problems from occuring and checking the valves every 15 hours?
30 hours!!!!! WOW!!! Dude you should be changing that oil every 10 hours MAX MAX MAX!!! I go every 5!!

In all honesty, 100 hours on a 150 and needing a valve job is not that uncommon at all, thats what they do.
Ok so maybe im crazy but i start to freak out if i havent done an oil change in 4 hours on my KTM lol

This debate got started with the title stating "I'm starting to hate 4 strokes" If anyone has another alternative feel free to provide one. I only mentioned buying a 85 if you didn't want the maintenance ($) hassles that come with a 4 stroke. Feel free keep the 150 but stop complaining about the cost of ownership.

Everyone has their 1/2 peso on things man. Sometimes you just got to roll with it. Open forums mean you can whine, complain or whatever. Some seem to miss that part. Kinda like me and six pac, he has his advice on the bikes you mentioned, and I have mine. Whos right? I am! just kidding.

allways remember that horsepower does not win races and it also does not determine top speed.

i went from 2 stroke to four stroke recently myself, but had been told by friends to keep up on the maintenance of oil changes, air filter changes, and checking the valve clearances. i also read the manual and do the work myself THUS saving me $$$,(i like the word thus).
I attend my share of local races and from what i have seen, the 150r is better than an 85 pound for pound, sure u get kids that are still on 85's that haul the mail, but i bet its only a financial reason that they dont have a 150r, on the opposite side of that, u see alot of rich kids on blinged up 150r's that come dead last time and time again. ( Money cant buy talent!!!)

by the way, when does supercross start again???
