| 1. pull out your manual (always!) 2. pull off the left side cover to expose the side of the crank shaft, (the side with your charging system, usually the left side)and you will see a big nut, find wrench to fit nut 3.remove your spark plug 4. there will be another circular metal cover with a few holes in it, it is also most likely magnetic, on the top rim of this cover there will be markings with lines imprinted onto it. mounted on the engine case will be a little metal arrow, when these lines match to the arrow, they will tell you where in the stroke your bike is, compare that with your manual on which mark is TDC and line them up(one might actually say TDC) if you are trying to get the bike on TDC of the compression stroke, as you turn the bike over with the wrench, put your finger over the spark plug hole and feel which stroke has the most pressure building up, once you find that stroke, line up the markings as they should be very close already or remove the valve cover, when the piston is TDC of the compression stroke, the rocker arms will be loose and able to rattle, aslong as all the rocker arms rattle then you are on your compression stroke, then line up the TDC marking ...is that better Jedi Last edited by kwmotocrosspunk; 10-19-2009 at 11:17 PM. |
