Well I was reading over at ThumperTalk a while back, and it came up that the Ti units do not stand up any better against damage from hits and crashes. Just what I read. Others could probably elaborate a bit more. Sorry for my limited knowledge!

I think it really depends on the Ti, as I think they can make different types. The stock Ti header on my CRF was great. I had it on for 2 years and never had a problem. It's light and looks cool and seems to work fine. I'm not sure it's worth the extra coin to run it though.

Woody nailed it there are several different grades of Ti out there, would also have to do with the wall thickness of the pipe as well. I know several people that run them, without incident.

Woody deserves props on this. Just like any other metal ti has differing grades and qualities that will affect the performance of the pipe in different ways.

Yes, I agree. Woody or his wife deserve props. Hey, I don't know who's posting from that username. The security has already been breached once. Woody, you need to have a secret sign or something on your posts, that way we'll be able to tell if it's you.

Another funny thing about titanium is that it gets kind of "rubbery" when very hot...ever notice how a Ti header will dent easily when very hot? That's why. A SS header will not dent as easily at operating tempertaure but weighs alot more...

That's why they use titanium on golf clubs. The titanium has a better "trampoline" effect. At the lower club head speeds or smaller faces, there is not that much difference between the two. However, with today's oversized drivers, almost every clubhead face is made out of titanium. Isn't titanium one of the scarcest metals on earth? Sorry, I didn't mean to turn it into a golf forum. Same technology, different application.

You have to remember that the metal usually are really strong, a lot of things that break are because of weak welds. Titanium gets EXTREMELY brittle if not welded properly, the weld has to be gas shielded on BOTH sides of the weld in order to make a strong one. I'm willing to bet that a lot of manufacturers don't shield both sides of a non-weight bearing piece. That's just one thing that could effect it. Last edited by Jim X; 12-10-2004 at 03:35 PM.

in all reality titanium is no better than steel. titanium headpipes are only lighter by a fraction and dent easier. the only cool thing about them is they change colors when they heat up.

I tend to agree with you O4S. My SS Dr D header is awesome, and I don't have to worry so much about the easy dent from rocks or a dirt sample... Doesn't mean it won't happen, but the chances are less likely.
