Paul Turner on CRF'sONLY is Paul Turner. He is NOT the Paul Turner that you are thinking of though.

The 2009 CRF450R's had their share of issues.

The problem you relate is the decompressor pins were shearing off. Made them impossible to start, and that was a good thing because the little piece of pin could get into the cam chain and take out the whole engine.

Honda fixed those issues at their own cost.

The fuel pumps were burning out at an alarming rate. The filters were clogging and starving the pump of fuel and subsequently lubrication.

The injectors were sticking open and filling the crankcases with fuel.

Honda is NOT fixing those issues at their cost.

Supposedly the 2010 has those issues remedied...time will tell. I wouldn't rush right out and buy a new 2010 until they've seen some time in the dirt.

The 2009 is a beautiful bike to ride. Light, narrow, nimble. Power delivery is smooth and linear, no hesitations...a reflash of the ECM made them even better, easier to start, etc.
Good info!! Thanks Agent.

Well Agent Smith, I'm impressed by your quick answers.
Not because you work on CRF's all day but because you sponser riders.
That is pay back to the sport and comes from the heart.
Hope you bring your Dist 37 riders to the DMC National in Janurary and maybe I will get to shake your hand.

So if I may ask, are you Ken or Paul.

LeRoy

Ah. Not sure if you took my post wrong. Was merly asking what kinda background you have. Please don't take my post the wrong way. I've ready several of your replys and you seem to have a ton exp with bikes. One thing I'm still not to sure of is what side of the fence you're on? Or maybe to put it simple, what's your color?

I too am impressed, not by his quickness, but what he does for the sport. Now that I look back on my post, maybe he thought I was calling him out? Honestly was not, I do like to know peoples backgrounds. Mxtras is another one that I know a little about and dogger. You can really tell the people that know what they are talking about. Sofar, both of these men are very impressive to me.

Thanks for the post Mainjet...so many in this industry are in it for the money or what they can get out of it personally. I'm hoping to be more successful so that I can increase the amount I can give back. There's no greater thrill for me than to see one of my riders ride well enough to get a transfer or even a win. I wish I could sponsor everybody...

BTW, I am Paul.

Freak,

by no means did I interpret your post as calling me out. Now Tirebiter...he called me out!!! I always like to know the backgrounds of people as well.
I really like the diversity of this site and hope I can contribute as all of you guys do.

Oh...color. Well technically red but I ride white.

Is that an 08? The other 09? I kinda figured you rode red. It's hard to ride nothing but the best eh. Trying to show Pete the light, but he won't give in. I guess he's getting used to 3-4 place finishes ha ha

Narrower, lighter, and easier to get graphics kits for. I don't think hardly anyone offers much for the 04 style bodywork anymore.

Lower center of gravity (engine forward, crank dropped 5mm, rads dropped 5mm), water pump issue fixed, new carb, Gen 4 frame, softened valve seats...

Much better bike than the 04, but not as good as the 2008.

Softened valve seats is a good thing? Seems like it wouldn't be.

Honda had to do something to quell the "eats valves" reputation that the CRF's were getting. They refined the grain structure a bit and softened them 1 or 2 points on the Rockwell C.

They SHOULD have put that effort into fixing the poor quality hardness coating applied to the Titanium valves as that's where the deficiency lies...

Agreed... seems like trying to put a band-aid on a gushing artery.
