Ok check this out. I know dirt bikes are made for dirt and jumping but sand that is something else. I have this friend that lives by a road that is about 1 1/2 feet of nothing but sand. It is very easy to ride his 2001 2 stroke polaris on but a dirt bike with dirt tires on it. now I have road on this before with my 100cc 4 stroke madmai, and trust me it was a rush. I kept getting stuck, sliding back and forth, man I was scared to put my feet on the foot pegs, I kept them close to the ground, and good thing I did cause I needed them. That was the only thing keeping me up and balanced. so tell me have you rode on a road like this, or would you like to. Don't get me wrong it is fun.

Sand? I ride on sand all the time. Tell you what you gotta do.... First of all..keep your feet on the pegs. Hang your butt off the back of the seat and give it some gas. Seriously...it's almost like a boat, you gotta get it planing on top of the sand. The bike will dance a little, but use your knees to pinch the seat...if that makes any sense at all. That's my method anyhow...

yeah just lean all the way back and pull the throttle back all the way...probably should keep it in second gear so you dont bog down in power.

thats just like riding dunes, only your not going up a huge hill everyone else has already said it, lean back and give it gas! sand riding is FUN! its even more fun when its wet, and you can lay the bike over and roost the crap out of your friends with heavy, wet, itchy sand

Just get on the bike, put it in second, and crack that throttle wide open and haul through it!

Just keep the gas wide open and you'll be fine the slower you go the more the front will get buried in the ground.

I grew up learning to dirtbike on the Lake Michigan dunes,, and now live in Florida which is 90% sand.. Don't try to hold a death grip on the handlebars.. they will wobble but it is OK... And actually a wider front tire with trials tread instead of motocross tread help too, but is not really necessary..

Ok a question say I put it in second and give it all it's got, and start riding on top of the sand. what happen if I land in a quad trail, or better yet a huge chunk of sand. won't that throw me off or at least make me loose control of my bike?????????

Haha, sand it actauly safer cuz when you fall it acts as a cushion.

not when the bike with a hot engine fall on top of you. if you stick with dirt and grass you don't have to worry about falling as much as long as you know what you are doing.

crazy: what you talking about you gotta have a paddle? i rode a 250 with a paddle and it hooked up like on pavement... but i kinda like it when you can step out the rear end in 6th gear P4L

Riding in the sand is great, every spring break when the kids are out of school we load up the dune buggies, ATVs and dirt bikes and head down to the dunes in Oregan. Like they said sit back, open up the throttle and enoy the ride. If you can't justify a paddle, let some air out of the back tire, will soften it up and flatten it out for better traction. just don't let too much out otherwise you could end up spining the tire on the rim.

Keep the throttle on high. Ride a bigger bike 250 or higher. Lower the tire pressure and use a paddle tire for the back. If you just run across sand in between your ride, then just sit on the back portion of your seat with the bike in 3/4 - Full throttle.

odd...no new replies yet this topic is on top of the new posts page anyway now that its here i may as well reply. I have never had trouble with sand. It just slings around a bit more than dirt but its not hard to control.
