| HEY CHECK IT OUT YALL ITS BEEN ALMOST 8 YRS NOW SINCE I JUMPED ON A BIKE MUCH LESS RACED BUT IM HAVING A SON IN A COUPLE MONTHS, I PLAN ON INTRODUCING HIM INTO MOTOCROSS ONCE HE CAN RIDE A TRIKE. BUT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO RIDE WITH HIM AND I JUST WANNA START RACING AGAIN. MY LAST RACES WERE 80B AND 125B AT THE SAME TIME SO IM NOT CONCERNED AT ALL ABOUT THE 450 HAVING TOO MUCH POWER BUT I WOULD PREFER TO STAY IN THE 125 CLASS. BUT IF IM TOO FAT TO GO THAT ROUTE THEN ILL MOVE ON UP. LOL I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE FOUR STROKES HOWEVER. NOW THE QUESTION.... |

| well your my size, I own a 08 yz250f. As for the 250f models they are the bullet proof bikes. I do not follow any shootouts. All the chains sux on any new model bike. Get a o-ring chain ,set the bike up the way you like(sag, bars, shifter, brakes clickers). If you want to ride...get a yamaha(imo),if you want to work on one get another model. The 450 are a different story as I know nothing about them other than they are a big mans bike. They got more power than will ever be used. |

So what did you get or are you still looking. I'd think at your size and experience level you'd be good on either bike. but if you want to race the 250F class you'd be ok at 175. Kawi does well in the shootouts, yamahas are usually in the middle somehwre in performance but considered most reliable |

| I'm the same weight and height. I just purchased my first dirtbike 2 months ago. I've been told the 450 is too much bike for new riders but I felt far more comfortable on it than my buddy's 250 4 stroke. The 250 requires quite a bit more gear shifting to keep it in the the meat of the power band which is challenging for a newb like myself. |

| 450 all the way. If its too much grow into it.I rode 125s and 250s growing up.Now i have a 490 2 stroke. and could never go back to a bike with less power like a 250f.Thats why they give us a throttle not a switch. |

First off, do this: ![]() Then get the bike you want, ride it, then review it for the rest of us. Without yelling please. -Darin |

| "are you familiar at all with the recent shootouts for 08? did the yz take it?" dont listen to most shootouts cause honda always wins even though they are no better than any other name brand |

| I totally say go with Kawi... A friend of mine has a 2008 yz250f and has blown out 4 oil lines just riding... could just be that particular bike.. but still. Plus, i think with your weight you would be just fine on a 250f, maybe stiffen up the suspension but nothin to difficult... most people on 450's are just ridiculous, i race an open beginner class and there is a 13 y/o kid on a kx450.. which is just stupid IMO.. and he is not fast! always at the back of the pack.. this is stupidity.. bottom line, go with kx250f! |
