I have had a lot of Yamaha fourstrokes. I am getting a new 250 for a change of pace. I am really thinking about the new RM It is getting great reviews. Is there any reason not to go with the 'zook for a change of pace? I know I will like the YZ as I am used to yamaha's What do you guys think? ---Mike

Get the one that feels more comfortable under you. They are both very sweet rides and Im sure you would probably be happy either way, so get the one that feels right sitting and standing on it.

Yup good advice, but personally I'd lean toward the Yammie. The YZ are far more proven machines.

The 04 YZ's have the new 48mm forks and they are the best. I've been riding YZ's since the 70's and these are by far the best stock forks I have ever had. They are even better than most of the ones I had revalved one too!!

They all are fast enough to win. The new RM with the gruntier motor and better chassis should rock in the woods. I will probably go with the RM because I found a good deal on one! I think I will like either one. This is the first year the RM seems good enough to sway my vote from a Yamaha! They took a lot of input on that bike design from Rodney Smith. Hence the torquey motor. Wow this is kinda fun. I have always been so decided before. Shopping is fun! ---------Mike

The only thing that the new RMs are really proven on is reliability. Something you can pretty much promise on a blue bike.

I have not seen much in the way of durability problems with Suzuki in general? I have heard of som clutch noinel but that is about it. If I end up having to pay full pop it will still be a tough call. ---Mike

Thump I sold My WR because it was heavy. I sold the YZ because I want somthing new and it has a lot of hours on it. I dont want the 4 speed YZ because 1st gear is to tall for woods. The Honda Seems to suffer in reliability. No KTM because they are expesive and fall apart quicker than anything. I would love a thumper but they just dont do what I want very well. A 250F might work but I am really to big for one. ---Mike

i think going to a 250F from your previous bikes would feel like a joke to you, i agree that it is out of the question. the newer 450F are not bad and as i understand make fairly decent woods weapons. i still believe that KTM makes the best bikes for anything outside of Supercross since they have the largest selection of bike as compared to most manufacturers. i also have never heard anyone complain of their quality or finish. just my opinion though. you should be able to pick up a 04 YZ250 for a VERY decent price since everyone is converting over to the thumpers. i still prefer the pingers though. i tried the thumper, didnt like it too much, felt kinda slow and was "different" than what i am used to riding. its not that it "was" slow, it just felt to linear on the power scale. i like the hit.

I like both bikes so it would be hard, but I think I might lean toward the Suz just for the hell of it. In the past they have had some really great bikes and some not so great. Yamahas have always been good and thats it. Not great at any one thing just damn good all around. No Yamaha is gonna out carve the Suzuki, and it sounds like they built a great motor for this year. Go YELLOW .........WAIT a second......GO RED! Dont listen to all the BS CRAP the mags write about. Honda probably didnt bring the best lunch and import beer to the editors so they write crap! GET RED! See the bike in the picture to the left? IT RIPS! And looks better sittin in your garage than all of the other bikes made. Last edited by Roostman; 04-01-2004 at 10:58 PM.
