Hi all, this is my first post here and I dont speak english, so please try to understand whatever you can, any ways my question is simple. I started to consider a 2 stroke as the replacement of my TTR 250 which im gonna change soon, something like a Yamaha YZ 250 or CR, but I will only use it for Off-road riding, even if i put a flywheel wheight to tame the bike, isn't 250cc too much power for me even ? Im 16 and weight 70 kgs. I've just riden a susuki ts-r 200 and i did well on it, but never before a 250, so thats why im asking Thats all !

Go for a KDX200 as a 2 stroke trail rider. A motocross 250 would be too much coming off a ttr250. Maybe even a 125 would work. By the way- considering you dont speak english, your english is pretty dang good!

Ok stepping up to the bigger bikes! I went from a TT350 to a YZ 426! Whoa Baby! Yes you could ride one and get used to it! It just takes time. I would try a 250YZF first you probably find they are excellant bikes. Both to ride and power wise. I found the 250YZ 2 stroke harder to ride then the 426! Thats because of the way the power comes on. It didn't have the same power as the thumper but it was too hot n cold. The 426 you could just roll it on. If I had rode 2 strokes in the past more I probably wouldn't have notice. The thumpers are better for riders to come to grips with! There is a few advantages with the 2 strokes. Cost to repair and lightness. They are easy to fix! So its up to you! Go for a 450 (whichever colour) and don't look back! You,ll see the 2 smokers back there! Hehe!

I think you could handle it, but I'd definately try and ride one before dropping a couple G's on one. 250's can be excellent woods bikes, you just need to know how to use the power correctly, be easy on the throttle, the only thing that will make you back flip that bike from having too much power, is your right wrist.

By the way, forgot to tell you 70 kilogram = 154.3 pounds hehe, too light for 50 pulling ponnies of a yz 250 ? I told my dad and he says there will be money when we sell 2 bikes (my ttr between them), but he got scared when i told him i wanted a 250 pinger haha, I'll take time to convince him for the 2 strokes .... so thanks every one 4 your help !

crdemon, you're 5'9, 130, same as me. if i remember right, you came off a cr80, right? i just rode a cr85 the other day and it really didnt impress me, even coming right off my ttr-125. what was the switch like? i think i want a cr250 with a few woods mods, and dont know if i could handle it....i say yes, because a kx100 or a cr85 wasnt near enough power for me, and i dont want to constantly rev a 125 in the wooods....any info on the switch would be appreciated

I've riden CR80s, lots of 125s, and a YZ250. Believe me, the power of an 80 and a 250 is no comparision. If I were you though, I would go with a CRF250 (4stroke), or even a CRF450 (4stroke).

It sounds like you are already used to a heavier bike. I would have to see you ride to know more, but generally speaking I find the 250 two strokes very easy to ride,,they are light, but a little tall,,you may consider lowering it at least at first. If anyone tells you to put on higher gearing when you are just learning, dont listen to them. Lower gearing, while allowing for more throttle response will make it easier to ride at lower rpms until you are used to it. Less stalling and easier to learn throttle control. Start on smoothe,,,do figure 8's until you can turn tight etc,,then go to the woods.

a 250 will either get you in trouble or out of trouble as a beginner.. I started on a 250 and and got me out of trouble a few times and in trouble a couple times.. Good luck
