what paint?

I have completely stripped down my 2000 yz125. i want to paint the frame, swingarm, triple clamps, subframe, and muffler black. i do not want to get it powdercoated because of the cost. what kind of paint should i use? and after quite a few coats of paint should I clear coat it a lot? please let me know. thanks

pj1 makes paint tht matches the oem colors of the frame pipes etc
im sure thtwould work although ive never used it

I would go down to a local autoparts store, and look for the same type of paint that the repair shops use to paint the engine blocks. that way it can withstand the extreme heat. and wont flake..

I have used the PJ1 with good results. check my gallery and you can see the results. With any spray paint, prep is very important. The paint is holding up really well. This is the second frame I've done. I would suggest having it bead blasted prior to spraying the primer coats. Or if you have the resources, "get it powder coated".

No...in fact, it will only make it worse.

You don't want a "butt load" of any kind of paint. Only enough to cover the project.

If you don't want to pay for powder coating, which is the best way to go BTW, then a urethane paint such as DuPont Imron with a catalyst is the second best choice. But it's nearly as expensive for the materials as it would be to have it powder coated. 3rd choice is good old acrylic enamel.
