Default REEDS: 2 stage or single stage

I need to know which reeds to get when I'm ready to replace them, which I might be doing sometime soon. My question is, are the two stage Carbon fiber Pro series Boyesen Reeds the best way to go, and is it worth the extra cash over the single starge? Also are the two stage harder to install than the single?

The two stage are about the same in installation. Really simple. I like the two stage reeds for all around riding. If you have one rpm band you really stay in, you can benefit by a single stage reed set for that particular band as far as I am concerned.

Correct me if I am wrong but the 2 stage require Boyesen's reed cage. If you are just replacing your stock reed petals and not the whole cage you can only go with their super stock reeds. I just went through this same deal. I would get the whole rad Valve system if you have the cash.

MB, the two stage boyesens can be installed on stock reed blocks, that was their intended purpose about 30 years ago when they came out.

I don't understand the whole multi stage powerband thing. i thought there was just one powerband on bikes? Also do you think they are worth it over the single?

if you are asking me, there isnt much i can tell you that wasnt in my original post. dual stage boyesen's are not all that expensive to start with. probably cheaper than a set of stock ones. the change will be minimal at the most. if you are curious if they will work better for you, give them a try. I have yet to see one that jetted properly performed worse on the entry level boyesen dual stage than they did on stock reeds.

i think explaining power bands is going to take a long time. numerous posts on them. I just was given eric gorr's latest book. i would suggest it to anyone.

I know what it is, but I just didn't know there were different areas to "find" the powerband.

Ahh, I did not know that. I ordered the single stage. Oh well, I am sure they will do the trick for now.

Well I check them out and they are new Boyesen Carbon Reeds, Sweet. But what isn't so sweet is that I'm starting a new thread on not having any mid-top end pwer at all. I'm so frustrated. I fix one thing and another happens after one ride.
