Hey guys, I'm wanting to purchase a second air filter so I can clean one while one is in the bike. I see on motoworldracing.com they have them for my 00 yz 125 for $21.95. However on rockymountainatv.com it's only $10.95 and it's pre-oiled. Does that mean it's a one time filter that you don't clean and re-use? The price seems to good to be true. Thanks Malcolm

I buy filters from Twin Air that are pre-oiled. I have used it more than once. I think you are OK with re-using that filter

Their are a couple different disposible filters - No-Toil has one, and Ready Filter is another. You can buy disposible ones, and you might be able to clean them 2-3 times, but after that I wouldn't. Every filter I've ever bought (disposible or not) has come pre-oiled.

I called rockymountain and the lady said I can re-use it so I guess it's not a 1 time throw away. I will give it a try.

The Ready Filters can be washed and reused a few times as long as you are gentle. I've never had a problem with them as far as filtering despite them being a little thinner than conventional foam filters. I just hate washing filters so I just replace them instead of washing. It doesn't seem logical to me to buy filter cleaner and oil, then spend time cleaning the filter when I can just toss a new one on for $10.

Humm so you think that's a ready filter? maybe I should avoid it. I'm trying to get one I can use many times over, not just once or twice. For me it doesn't make sense to spend $10 on a new filter every time I ride. To expensive. Instead I will just keep cleaning and oiling my filter(s). That's why I want a second one so I can rotate them. The cleaning solution and filter oil are cheaper in the long run as far as I can tell.

But for what you want, I would suggest a quality filter like Twin Air or Uni. |

Well that is true. $10 a month is not bad. It just depends on riding conditions. I've gone riding on a saturday and looked at my filter afterwards and it looked just as clean as when I oiled it. However I've also ridden with friends racing through little tracks we make up out of trails and riding behind someone like that just causes you to take in so much dust it's crazy. I get home and pull the seat and the filter looks dark brown and full of dirt on it as apposed to the light green oil color it started out as. That's when I clean it right away. It probably could go longer, I don't know. It's probably all surface dirt and could be used a lot more. I just consider it cheap insurance to keep it clean.

I use ready filter, and No Toil filters. They work great! Just like the more expensive filters you just need to keep a eye on them. Once they start to look abused its time for a new one. I've cleaned and reused both many times over. I clean my filters after every other ride. Never had issues with them.

I'm just sold on the traditional Twin Air filters. They are sturdy and when I find something I like (1974) I stick with it. The ready filters aren't as well constructed in their foam and the adhesive as the reusable filters. Just one more dinosaur trait I guess. Bill

Bill, I agree 100% with the construction. That's why I want a quality filter that's intended to be used over and over. The rockymountain filter for $10 must be intended as a one time use. They lady on the phone told me I "could" clean it and re-use it but that doesn't mean it's the better quality filter I'm after. Since I have doubts I will just order the more expensive $21 no-toil from motoworldracing.com Thanks Malcolm

I will say you are right about the quality. They're both disposable, and it shows. Between the ready filter, and No Toil, the No Toil seems to be of better quality. Maybe that because they don't come vacuum sealed and flat like the Ready Filter.

The disposable filters have a following and are pretty popular here with the serious racers so they can change filters between motos. Just like oil and chain/sprockets, everyone has their favorite. As I said I am a 50 Y.O. dinosaur and stuck in my hard headed ways Bill
