Default Michelin Toss up

I am relatively new to this site, and would like to comment first on the general attitude of the community. I have already done many searches on the forums here, had great results and found everyone to be generally helpful and friendly. Not so much the case of the community I used to associate with, but thats beside the point.

I am not looking for the one answer to this question. I'll start by saying that I do not race, I am a recreational rider and am looking for the hardest wearing tire that I can get. I came off my previous motorcycle with the Michelin M12. I was amazed at how well it stood up to 50+ hours of recreational use. I guess what I am looking at is the Michelin MH3, and out of the two (or you can ad your recommendation),if there is a substantial difference, which one will wear the hardest?

Thanks,

Alex

welcome to ! What kind of terrain you riding? track, trail, mountains/rocks? Never tried the Michelins so I cant comment on those but Ive had really good luck with the Maxxis maxcross ITs. great wear and good bite in all sorts of terrain. The rears, that is. I dont care for the fronts.

Like Doc said the type of terrian you ride will help us out tons in recommend a tire.

I have used both tires you are talking about, the M-12 is the longer lasting of the 2, however if you ride in anything that's hard its HORRIBLE in hard stuff, works flawlessly in the medium stuff and loose stuff.

The best performing tire I have found that has a balance of all terrians and wears really well is a Dunlop 952, I am hooked on that tire.

Generally I am never on the track. Sorry, I love the sport but with lack of experience comes lack of knowledge. Tell me if I am wrong, but I am lead to believe hard pack generally forms on a mx track? Even if what I am saying is completely wrong, I know what hard pack is, and I do not see it in my daily lines. Maybe I'll see a little on the semi wet flat track and a small mx track in my block a few times. I am typically riding trails, some rocks, some sand pits, all that. I am convinced an M12 is the way to go if it is truly longer lasting. I have also heard from a good friend of mine that Maxxis has a tire that wears like the M12, maybe better.

The Maxxis is also VERY stiff and difficult to put on, making me think itd be good for rocks and the like.

The Dunlop 739 wore like iron on the back of my CR500.

Still got to test the M12's I bought.

I live in South Carolina, and I don't race either. Not now anyway. I did when I was younger. Now its nothing but trails and electric company right of ways. Point is every ride I take I am in mud, rocks, hard pack, and sand. I run the Maxxis IT, front and rear. They wear great. I have ran Michelin M12 also. Maxxis doesn't wear quite as long, but they hook up a lot better.

I use maxxis for rec/riding and Dunlop 952 on the 450's and 756 on the 250's for racing.
