Default mechanical inspection failure

hey Ive got a 2004 YZ 125 that I'm about to sell but the guy wants a mechanical inspection first. What kind of things do I need to do to prepare for a mechanical inspection and what do they check? Like compression?

Maybe he wants to get a mechanic to come look at it, anyway that's really up to him to organize that. He thinks it's probably like buying a car, you need a road worthy certificate, over here you do. Heck it's a 125 2 stroke you can tell if it has good compression by kicking it. Just clean it up and check as much as you can, loose spokes, worn sprockets, etc etc.

Anyone buying a used 125 MX bike should realize that it won't be perfect. When I look at any bike I check for obvious things like compression, frame cracks, bent rims, slipping clutch and droopy foot pegs. Worn out sprockets & chains, tires, and leaking fork seals are next. Look for play in the suspension and the wheel bearings. There is no way anyone can check the motor without tearing it down completely so unless you can prove how long it's been since the top end was done, a buyer should budget for a fresh rebuild. You can look into the exhaust port by taking the pipe off but that doesn't show the whole story. I always look into the radiator to check for clean fluid topped up and I look for a fresh clean air filter. Plastic and graphics aren't all that important because they are cheap. Be as honest as possible with the buyer and if he's too fussy, wants something perfect for next to nothing, send him on his way. Some people will never be happy and as long as your price is fair, you should get close to what you're asking.

Well, I'd guess that he will look at the obvious ie. how you were looking after the bike. Clean it well, clean and oil the air filter, adjust the chain, ensure the wheel rays are tight, plug is clean and all the brake are working fine. If you want top money for the bike, make it ready to go for ride right away. If I'd sell any of my bike, I would not worry at all cos after each ride when I get home, I clean them, oil the chain, check the air filter and all so if a friend ask me to go, the bike is ready. None of my business but you might also want to ensure tidyness in your garage where the bike is stored as this might (and do) influence a prospective buyer. If a guy is clean in his workshop and everything is neat, I'd buy this guy's bike cos I'd be almost sure that he is someone that does look properly after his vehicule be it truck or bikes.

What would you look for if you were thinking of buying your own bike? No one wants a bike that appears to have been neglected.
