Question I melted my Trans. on my YZ-250 2-Stroke?!

sup yall!

here is my problem:

I was going down the dirt road while i was in probably 2nd or 3rd gear when the bike all of a sudden just died!

when i pushed in the cluch just before it stalled out on me the bike sounded better.

this was the 2nd time the bike did this in the same day and has never happened before while riding!

Here is my toughts of what could be wrong:
the Trans. is all screwed up and i gotta get a new one.
i need a new starter
i need a new spark plug
or i need a new top end kit.

This bike is a '03 yz-250 2-stroke w/ pro circute pipe and spark arrester that i just bought!

THank for your help in advance!
Alex

ps- ppl have said just to get it cool down and it should be fine in a few days or so it will work like brand new!
I also have heard that it's probably the transmittion!

When i try to start it ... I DO HEAR A LITTLE BIT OF A BURP OR 2 (it sounds like a good couple of deep burps that almost sound like it's almost about to start)!

thanks for the help again!
Alex

The easiest, and first step, would be to check the plug. If it looks like it has any chance of being fouled, replace it. Or just replace it regardless.

I don't think something like that would be caused by the top end going bad, but I may be wrong. Not sure about the tranny either.

Probably nothing to do with the Trans at all. I would make sure the carb is clean and the have a new plug. You might want to take a look at the clutch plates to see if everything is in spec. The Trans is not the reason for it not starting or running.

Can you pull in the clutch and kick the motor over? Will it go into neutral? Were you ruining the bike slow? Pull the plug and see if it is Black.

The motor turns (it just will not start) and I can put it into Neutral... i can also put the clutch in and put it into 1st!

later today I will try and check the Carb and see if it's clean and I think i will change the air filter to while i'm at it and the Spark Plug.

thanks for the help!

It's not the transmission.

It is very possible that the engine has siezed. You say you just changed the pipe and silencer? Did you check the jetting after you made this change? It is probable that changing the pipe changed the resulting mixture to the engine. If the change was to make it lean out then you may have fried the engine.

What ever the cause, it if very unlikely that letting it sit for a couple of days will make it like new again.

I would start with a compression test. If you don't get 140 PSI or more then I would tear the head off and inspect.

Do the basics first, and then dig deaper into the engine if you have to.

Ok i finally got all the nuts loose!

i went to the bike shop and I paid $25 for them to loosen a nut for me & they also gave me so additional advice:

My Tripple Clamp was loose.
My Bottom end might be all screwed up to along w/ my top end!

I SWAR TO GOOD PPL THAT I WILL HAVE MY DAMN BIKE ALL FIXED BY THE END OF THIS WEEKEND!

What nuts were you having trouble getting loose?

it was one of those nuts that holds down the engine casing!

I took a look at the actual piston & ...

The piston was missing a lot of metal and it melted some to!

I found some big chucks of metal all over the engine casing and tons of chredded metal in the pipe and muffler!

Could this mean that both my top end and bottom end need whole new set-ups?

just be happy that this didn't happen to a four stroke. On a four stroke rebuild, your looking at $650 plus labor. with a two-stroke, u can get a complete engine rebuilt for 350... plus on a two-stroke, you can do the labor yourself even if your not super-mechanic, it's easier... hows the rebuild going by the way?
