help please! kick start question

Hi Guys,

wondering if you can help me, any advice would be very much appreciated, a friend of mine has a 91' kx125.

When cold the kick start does not operate properly, the rachet mechanism doesn't catch very well and sometimes not at all, i.e the kick arm just goes up and down without turning the motor. Once started and warm it kicks just fine.


As this is quite an old bike and not mine i don't want to buy a manual for it but would like to get my friend up and running again (he's not mechanically minded so i'll be fixing it).

Any ideas on what the problem might be? how it's fixed? can it be done from the clutch side or is the kick deeper in?

A simple cheap fix would be best for me.
