Crank Seal

Default Crank Seal

Is there a way to check if a crank seal is bad? About how much tranny oil should come out when i drain it? What coler smoke would be put out if the seal is bad? It is a 96 KTM 250.

I've read that the exhaust is color white and smells "bad" or diffrent than usual. You shoul fill your crank up to the correct level, measure that amount and compare to the amount after a good ride. There should be no significant diffrence.
Could start with that...

All depends which crank seal is bad, ignition side, or clutch side. If the clutch side is bad, the bike will burn transmission oil, and you should be able to smell that. The ignition side will mainly just cause an air leak, my ignition side crank seal blew out on my RM 125, and I didn't notice a difference, until I took the flywheel off, and saw a tiny little drizzle mark of transmission oil. The new seal was only 3 bucks!

you could build or buy an leak down tester and test it for a bad seal.
