Default bottem and top end rebuild parts list opinion

Just out of curiosity, I am doing a full rebuild for my '03 KX250 and was wondering if Wiseco cranks and pistons or Kawi cranks and pistons are generally used? It's less expensive to go with the aftermarket stuff (hotrod cranks, wiseco, etc.) but how durable is it?

i think wiseco has a recall on their cranks due to connecting rod failure either have a machine shop rebuild your crank or buy the hot rod kit i have had nothing but good luck with hot rod

The re-call Wiseco had earlier this year was for cranks on some 4-stroke models only. This did not affect the 2-stroke cranks. I put a Wiseco bottom end kit in my son's KX65 and it has been running perfectly for two racing seasons. I can't find fault with the product and I wouldn't hesitate to use another one.

I bought a wiseco bottom end crankshaft kit. I thought it was VERY fairly priced for what you get, but the problem I had with it is snap ring groove on teh primary drive gear side. The gears don't sit as far back as on the oem crankshaft (1.5mm is what I measured), and it's enough to not allow the snap ring to fit into the groove. I think my only option is to thin out the snap ring with a grinding wheel or something similar. I emailed Wiseco, but haven't heard back.

I had the dealer install my son's crank on the 65 and there were no problems with tolerence. I wouldn't recommend grinding the snap ring as it would be weakend and probably thinner in some areas making it prone to give away which is the last thing you'd want. Is it possible that you received the wrong years crank? Don't rush on this until you get an answer from Wiseco. I'd actually call them during work hours. Their number is 1-800-321-1364
