Definately do NOT spray paint them, the paint will chip right off. I've heard of people powdercoating them, and have gotten good results, but I've also heard of people powdercoating them, and the powdercoat chip off. Your best bet is to wait on eBay for a nice set of black Excels, but I'm sure you may be able to get away with powdercoat.

If you want it to last more then a single tire change you need to annodize them.

I would think by the time you go thru taking the wheel apart shipping it off somewhere waiting for it to be anodized and then putting everything back together, you would have spent more time and probably around the same money if you just bought some black rims from Excell.

I could be wrong, but I bet it would be close.

Not to mention that Excels are better rims than the stock Honda bits.

Thumbs up Re: Black wheels

I got my rims sandblasted and acid washed so the paint would stick, then I got them painted in a high quality durable paint that is usually used on transport truck frames. It looks wicked and no chips yet.

How much did that cost, in comparison to just buying a set of black Excels and being done with it? I can't imagine that it was a cost-effective option.

You have to do that regardless of how you make it black. You can't paint an assembled rim either. At least not if you want it to look decent.

I have a friend who powder coated his rims on his Yamaha and they look great. He is racing in the dez and they are holding up to the rocks and not chipping.
