Default An apology

Hello everyone,

I am an old time four stroker from the time I was 14. I built my first MX bike from an XL250 and did ok on short tracks. Ive been all around the desert, street and a mix of all. I always though that two strokes were.... I don’t know... rattling little tin crates that smoked and sounded like a bunch of pissed off bees.
Well I'm now 51. Got me a wild hair up my a** and bought me an 01 CR250 on e-bay in December. I am insane about this little bike. I have ridden some big bikes and some super fast crotch rockets as well as my XR650 that’s uncorked and Baja ready but I have never felt the super slingshot hit nor ridden such a feather weight bike that I just have to think and its already doing what ever I want. I love the simplicity of the engine and the ease of assembly and disassembly.
I am still adjusting my riding style to mesh better with the bike as well as a little wrenching to do the same, but right now I have jumped farther and run from corner to corner quicker than ever before.
So I just wanted to apologize for all those years of distain. SMOKE ON!

Sorry. That was just my feeble attempt at humor.
Sort of bragging that my 4 stroke can hold its own. I do concur that it's funny.

The 01 CR250R is one of my favorite bikes. They do everything so well.

I looked for one when I decided to go back to two strokes but couldn't find a clean one, so I went for the YZ250. Also an awesome two stroke.

Val great post, sounds like us old dogs can still learn a new trick. Baron your right they're great bikes, with both a 03' YZ 250 and 01' CR 250 I should consider myself lucky. Instead I'm thinking the 208lb. 250SX might complete a trifecta!

Well, I am in a paradox.
When I first got the bike, it smoked a bit and had a bit of mushy bottom end. not to say it wasn’t super fast but it was... manageable.
I think I have reached nirvana as far as tuning but in this success lays my dilemma.
I have been through the engine with a fine tooth comb, Replaced main seals, freshened up the top end, tried every jetting combination known to man, messed with fuel oil ratios, and now this bike is razor sharp.
That brings me to my next question.
This bike is soooooooo responsive that if in any gear at any speed I so much as relax my right had and allow the bumping of the bike over the ground cause my hand to so much as twitch, the bike will lurch forward. This responsiveness causes me to hold on with a death grip when on the track, causing me excessive arm pump, and after only a couple of laps, I'm of on the sidelines stretching an rubbing my forearms. I know I sound like woose, but even my 21 year old son who does some racing (YZF450) says the bike is high spirited and that he too was having problems with arm pump with this bike.
I've been looking at a flywheel weight. Has anyone out there had the same experience and installed a weight to mellow the beast, if so was it successful?

Just do a quick search here and you will find a fair amount of discussion on flywheel weights. I've never installed one but here is one thread I remember, even though it's a YZ. Maybe it will give you some insight.
Flywheel Weight 05 YZ250
