Default Pro-Taper Bars/Bend

First off do you think Pro-Tapers are worth the money? I like them because they are made in the USA, and they seem to be the top of the line bar, and probably the most durable, but a little pricey.

Would all of you mind posting the following:

Bike:
Your Height:
Bar Brand:
Bar Bend:
Opinion on bend:

I want to see what all of you run, and how you like them. I personally I like the CR bend (I guess that is what the stock bend is called), other than it is a little short on the height side (but might be resolved with the universal clamp kit). But I have never used anything but stock, so I have no idea what the others even feel like, which is why I am wanting your height and what bar you prefer to run.

Thanks in advance,

Guidster had some ProTaper CR Highs for sell awhile back you may see if he still has them.

I had Pro Tapers on my last bike and had to have them for my new bike. The main reason I wanted them however is to free up space on my bars. Damper, GPS, Compression Release, Kill switch, and light switch. It does not take long for me to fill up a set of bars.

Thumbs up Pro-Tapers

Woody,
We installed them on John's CR 125 when he trashed a second set of stock bars at the GMB Race. He went to the CR-HI and used the Tusk adapters to raise them an additional 3/4". He is pretty tall and he likes the feel of them. As an engineer I rate the construction and finish excellent. time and crashes will tell.

Bike:'03 YZ450F
Your Height:6'3
Bar Brand:Azonic Double Cross
Bar Bend:Larocco
Opinion on bend: I like the bars quite a bit. They are one of the taller bars and have very little sweep, which I prefer. The bar dimensions are the same as the Renthal RC bend, just a FYI for the Renthal fans. Almost forgot they look cool, which is the most important part, right?

I have Renthals std size 7/8 bars. I actually like the Pro-tapers better but my last bike and my current bike both had Renthals when I bought them and they are very good bars so I'm not going to replace them. If I still had stock steel bars I would go with Pro-tapers.

Actually don't the new KTM SX bikes come with Pro-tapers. They come with some brand of fat bar.

Im confused about buying the pro tapers a bit, It says the universal bend compensated for the 3/4 rise, so w/ a Tusk clamp kit do I get a universal bend or the bend of my choice?

All i really know about Pro-Tapers are that my riding buddy(125 intermmediate) has had his set since 1997. They are in PERFECT condition. Thats pretty good id say. I have the Tag T2's(oversize) and i love them. I chose the tags because i could get them and the mounting kit for 90$ Im sure the pro tapers are awesome but for the price of the tags you'd be crazy to pass that up.

The Pro-Taper universal just compensates for the 3/4" rise, so if you don't want the rise, get the universals, and the actual bar hight will be the same as if you didn't have the universal bar mounts.

For me I like the rise, so I'm going to probably go with the Pro-Taper Doug henry bend.

does that make sense?

Talking Tall person

Woody, Sorry that I missed your question about John's height. He is 6'-1" tall. He is fairly long legged and was very cramped woth the stock bar, seat and peg relationships on his '02 CR 125R. The CR-Hi Pro-Tapers and the Tusk risers helped alot. We also got the SDG tall seat. He is much happier with this set-up.

Glad to help Woody. I cannot believe I missed your question. You may procede to abuse me at your leisure . I hope the information does help. Gary anderson spent about an hour with John after the GMBI rece on bike set up and position. He is really more comfortable now.

my bike has been through many stages of torture and abuse, and the bars are still in perfect condition. one of the bad crashes was jumping 30' off a huge cliff onto rocks, which broke the stock bar mounts with the 3/4" adapter things, bent the frame, and busted the throttle tube and cap. i have NO idea what bend they are, but they are defenitely strong. another bar-bending nightmare was going into a flat turn with a rut in 3rd gear, only to find a foot-deep hole, and the bike to slam the front tire all the way to the left lock, flip up in the air resulting in a catapult of the rider (me) for 15 feet (or at least 15 size 10 o'neal elements steps) and a 1.5 full rotations of the bike, not hurting the bars. i am 5'7 1/2" tall, and i love them. don't know how much that helps, but i tried at least.

good luck on your choice,
-Rob

Personally I will probably be putting pro tapers on my next bike, but I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that they were made in Europe not the US.

Bike: RM 250
Your Height: '6 "4
Bar Brand: Tusk...lol
Bar Bend: Kawi or Kawi High...the highest bend I could find.
Opinion on bend: I liked the position, but I think I could live with about another 1/2" or so of height. I believe these had about a 4.53" rise or somewhere close to that? Oh and I really wish they wouldn't bend in a 2nd gear slideout...hey what do you expect for $12...lol I plan to throw on a set of nice bars in the future...Maybe a Pastrana bend with risers...I think those are pretty high.

Woody, I too have been considering the Pro Tapers. Hawk woods bend. It seems that the taller riders prefer the bigger bends but I was interested in them because I'm 5'10"....Ok 5'9". I wanted the longer bars so that I can install them with the bend towards me. Is this correct logic?
