Default Moose Aluminum Bars

A week or so ago, I crashed and bent my trusty tag x5 bars. I bought a replacement set of the Moose Aluminum bars in the CR Low Bend. They are made out of 2095 aluminum, and the price is right at $50. I was a little worried about putting "cheap" bars on my bike, but they feel as solid as ever. I definately think they will survive some serious abuse.

I feel these bars are a great compromise. I have owned a set of the super inexpensive aluminum bars (MSR Dominator, at $30) and they bent very easily. The tag bars were very expensive, at $75 to $80, and were quality, and lasted through some spectacular crashes, before giving out in a simple low side. The Moose aluminum bars are only $50, and while slightly heavier than the Tag bars, they feel extremely stocky and tough. Fit and finish was perfect, right on par with the Tags.

I'm going riding this weekend, so there is a good chance they will be crash tested! If they dont bend too easily, I will be a moose bar customer for life!

mxcr91 gets hurt more!

They are the standard aluminum bars. Moose does sell an oversize. I cant comment on it cause I have never tried it...

Ren, you really need to save some bucks and try some Pro Tapers- they are the best! I liked my X5's too... until the crossbar bolt stripped out. Give those Moose bars a good work out and let us know what you think!

i agree with cowboy. 7/8 renthalls are a waste of money. spend the extra $10.00 and the $ for the adapters and get the oversized bars. you will never go back. they are worth every penny.

You guys must have known I was searching the forums for info on bars.

I want to get taller bars and have been looking at different ones. I am not sure I could get used to fatbars. I am 6'2" and my current Renthals were fine until I got a tall seat! I did the footpeg mod and installed the tall foam seat and it did wonders for my legs...but guess what? My bars are low now!! (duh)

What do you guys recommend. Keep in mind have a YZF with stock clamps at the present time.

Universal adapters and Henry bend Pro Tapers is what I run. It puts them up there, but I like it. The only bend taller than Henry is Windham. Come up to Idaho and I'll let you ride my bike to see what you think

satch.

you should have tried my bike.

i run the whindam bend (the tallest bar) and some +10mm clamps.
since your yamaha has those crappy clamps with perminant clamps , you would need the riser adapters. they add about the same 10-15 mm.
i love mine

Thanks guys I will check that out. I noticed that they make a taller bar than the Windham though (well according to Renthal). They have a "high Motocross" and a "Button" bend that have more rise. I will look at the Pro Tapers too.

Thanks!

Windham is the tallest that Pro Taper makes. The adapters are around $40 and the raise the bars 3/4"

I wouldn't get the tallest bars though if I were you. With the adapters you will be pretty tall. Bates has the henry's with the adapters and when I ride it they feel like I'm hanging onto the horns of a bull. I think he is 6' 4" though. And does have long arms.

My point though is not to worry about the taller bars since you will have to use adapters (or new t-clamps).

I still say adapters and Henry bend. Also Satch- I have a bar pad I'll sell you if interested- but since you stole that coil from the the price will be double Let me know.

I will never buy a set of 7/8 renthals, i've seen them bend in stupid little crashes.

The moose bars were 1/2 the price of protapers. I heard universal has a one year gurantee on their bars... if they bend in a year they will replace em... My bud bought some for his KTM after he bent his protapers.

Default bars

Ok guys one more question. I can get a real good deal on Renthal "Cr High" bend bars. They are CHEAP (yes I too am on a budget......I think!). Will these give me the rise I am looking for? I know they are not as strong as others but like I said they are cheap (yes I know there is no Santa Claus).

Satch- I think the Henry bend is still taller than CR Hi. Go to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] website- they have a good chart that compares the different bends. But if I can afford ProTapers and adapters, you should be able to! You'll never regret it once you get some ProTapers. Look at it this way- if you hadn't stole that coil from me, you could buy some adapters with that money then all you'd need would be bars (and of course my bar pad )

the bars i have were some kind of dominator and the bent in my last crash i clipped a fence and hit the bar goin about 30 - 45 and i went flyin.

i was wonderin what brand is good and what sive i would need so i wouldnt have to get new clamps or anything. i have a yz 80 but the previous owner changed the bars and maybe the clamp so were do i look on the bars to get the measurement? could the clamp have bent or is that unlikely?

satch. if they are cheap then go for it. i know all about being on a budget. my wife stays home with our son, so we are doing the one income broke a$$ thing now. I feel that pro tapers are a much better value though. the renthals are stronger than stock, but they are nowhere near the pro tapers, or other oversized bars. i feel that i would rather spent a little more money once than spend a little less three or four times. the last pro tapers i bought lasted through two bikes and several nasty get offs, and a few ambulance rides from the track.
my new pro tapers survived a get off that also sent me to the er and broke the mounting post bolt. the bars are perfect.

As I guessed, the mooses were crash tested on their first ride. A lowside in 4th gear coming out of a very fast sweeper. The rest of the bike and me took some damage, but the bars held up just fine!
