I think I am going to buy one for my 426. I want to get that red needle in there for top end and warmer weather.

I want to try the blue needle and compare. James Dean sez the Blue needle at the 3rd/4th clip is very close to the red at the 5th clip. The difference being the red gives more top end perfomance while the blue pulls better down low. Thats probably why a lot of riders prefer the blue setup on a track. Have fun testing
I'm not sure what I'm going to run yet.

I need to figure out 2 different setups for now.

1800 ASL/~55 degree's (Mesquite NV):
So I'm thinking...
180 Main
Blue Needle 4th from top
Fuel screw 1 1/4 out (obviously adjusted as needed with the cool new fuel screw)

AND

4200 ASL/~45 degree's (Home).
So I'm thinking...
178 Main
Blue Needle 3rd from top
Fuel screw 1 1/4 out (obviously adjusted as needed with the cool new fuel screw)

I'm guessing by the instructions that for home, the recommended is a 175, but because it's cold, and I'm going to use the Blue needle, I should bump the main up one step?? Is that how you understand it?

the colder higher alt if I understand right should bump down. You wrote the right number though 178=smaller blue=leaner. 180=richer (bump up) red =richer. The way you wrote it down is the way I understand it to work and sounds to me like a good starting plan. You will get the opportunity to test and refine the Mesquite (1800 elev) settings on the upcoming trip. Do not forget to write down every adjustment Woody.

I think I've got it too, so we'll see when I get there. And yes, I'll write it all down.

I've got the question posted over on TT, so we'll see what JD says.

Looks sweet woody, the bling factor has indeed went up.

After Mesquite III, I'll have one for you. I'm thinking of not putting the jets in untiil I've taken a couple of laps on the bike, then putting them in to see if it makes a difference or not. I'm sure it will, but I'd like back to back difference.

Excellent Idea Woody thats exactly what I would do. Then you'll get a true feel for what happened each time.

Rofl just don't let him fool with your fuel screw! Yeah I like that now you should record your reaction after every test ride on video so you don't have to remember to write it down. Then you can just rewind to it if you forget. Also you will have a chronicle of the work and results to refer back too.

I don't think I'll regret it. Every thing I've heard have been positive.

I just hope I'm not expecting/hoping it's better then it is.

that's always the danger in it. You hear everybody talk about how great, and what an improvement something is and when you try it your own you sometimes say 'Is that it?' because you expected it to be alot more!!!

Yeah, I hope that doesn't happen to me. However, I'm not so sold on the bike being WOW good either. When I jetted my bike originally, their was a little difference, but nothing to write home to mom about.

When Ernie jetted mine it made a noticable diifference in the low to mid range. I am not sure what the JD kit will do but my curiousity is peaked enough that I will buy the kit when momma says I can. I still wonder if I should do the bk/gb mod to the acc pump. When I read about all the mods bk/gb and blue wire most people say that they have trouble starting when they do them and it helped I don't feel I have that trouble starting but maybe I just know my bike better. I do want to do the 450 cam mod though for sure.

Soooooo Woody I'm having trouble figuring out if you ran your bike yet? My jetting was way off (running super rich) so the improvements the JD kit made were extremely noticable for me. I can't wait to run again this weekend with the airbox mods & no backfire screen

I don't even have them installed yet. I'm waiting on my fuel screw first. Can't ride for another 2 weeks anyway. We just got another 1 foot of snow.

It won't be until mesquite.

Ok, so I got the word from JD. His response is interesting to say the least. I'm going to ask why to see why... I'll let you know what he says.

My question:
Quote:
Ok, I have a question that wasn't clear in the instructions.

Here's what I've figured out

1800 ASL/~55-65 degree's (Mesquite NV):
So I'm thinking...
180 Main
Blue Needle 4th from top
Fuel screw 1 1/4 out (obviously adjusted as needed)

AND

4200 ASL/~45 degree's (Home).
So I'm thinking...
178 Main
Blue Needle 3rd from top
Fuel screw 1 1/4 out (obviously adjusted as needed)

Here's my question, for home, the recommended MJ is a 175, but because it's cold, and I'm going to use the Blue needle, I should bump the main up one step?? Is that correct?
His response:
Quote:
I would suggest using the Blue marked needle in the #3 position at both locations and probably the #178 main jet. The cooler temperatures will will improve performance with the richer jetting.

Thanks,
James
