Talking Dr. D Hot Start Set Up

If you own a Yamaha YZF thumper with the pull button hot start Get teh DR.D Hot start lever accessory. I have had mine for three weeks now. The fabrication is first rate and installation is simple. Other thumper models may be available, check their website for availability.

Remove the existing hot start knob using a 12 mm open end wrench.

Insert the Dr.D hot start into the orifice and thghten the barrel down with the 12 mm open end.

I removed the left radiator shroud to route the cable up to the handle bars. Take the clamp off of the ffront brake perch and install the lever / button for the hot start in its place.

Check for free action of the hot start and reinstall the radiator shroud.

the design of the actuator lever keeps your hand off of the throttle while doing a hot start and it is spring loaded so it releases when you take your thumb off. No lean running because you left the hot start knob pulled off and no flooding from twisting the throttle. sest of all no bending over in the heat of competition to find the hot start.

You can order direct from Dubach Racing Development

or from most mail or internet accessories suppliers.

I have had no problems with mine and I recommend dealing with Doug and Gina most wholeheartedly.

Happy Roosting.

I too found the Dr. D. hotstart to be a godsend on my 02'. There is nothing quite as aggravating as tearing off in the heat of a race after a stall--only to repeat it as you left the hot start button pulled out and it stalled again!

One of the better mods I've done, makes life so much easier, especially since I'm running a Clarke tank now on the WR.
Dr. D also makes a Hot Start kit for the 03's also. The 03's come with one now, but it's on the "wrong side" (clutch side) where it interferes with the quick adjust clutch cable feature. It's about half the cost of the earlier bike's setup becuase I believe it uses the same stock cable.

One thing I found an issue with is that you really need to keep the routing clear from binding, otherwise it makes the thumb actuator hard to push.

One complain I do have though is the thumb actuator could be a tiny bit longer

Otherwise it was well worth the money

i liked the drd hot start but wish it came with alittle longer cable.if it got pinched between the tank and frame turning my bar would pull it out causing a lean condition..

another good hot start is the ty davis hot start.. no cable involved. a thick air tube runs from the handlebar, so no pulling of a cable.. works great.

blue.. beat me to it.. lol.

i paid $89.95 from zip ty..
their kit has you remove the hot start plunger, they give you a machined aluminum piece that you put in its place (line up the hole in the plug with the hole in the carb) attach the clear tubing, and mount the piece. very easy.
