Default Im moving up!!

Its come to the time that im moving up to the "big boy" bikes. Im debateing on the 05 RM 250 vs the 05 CRF 450. I would like to know the pros and cons of each bike and the upkeep on each of them.Ive been riding the smokers pretty much all of my life but have heard good things about the 4-strokes.How much more or less upkeep is a thumper than a pinger-with good general up keep.I do ride woods-but also race scrambles too. (Im not trying to start a fight between the 4 and 2 strokers)

Thanks for any input provided

Getting a fourstroke was the best thing i've ever done. Maintenance is nothing. Change the oil, clean the air filter, ride!

What about the whole adjusting valves constantly deal? And valves breaking??: And is the weight difference really that noticable?

Sheesh, those are 2 completely different bikes. I'd have to say go for the RMZ, but only because the 450 is a lot of bike.

If it were me though, I'd be going blue in the tiddler class, and maybe even in the big boy class.

DOH! Never mind. That says RM - not RMZ, my bad.

Honestly, both of those bikes would be awesome. If I liked 2 strokes (I suck, so 4 strokes are easier) the RM would be the one I'd buy, no questions asked.

LOL!! ok...i was kinda leaning towards the smoker-just because ive been riding them my whle life and i actually know how to fix them. I almost afraid to even attemp to touch a thumper. But thanks for your guys reply. If there are any other people that think I should go to the thumper side....speak up lol

Sounds like your mind is already made up. There's nothing wrong with a thumper either, but since you're already familiar with 2 strokes, that sounds like the way to go IMO.

Ride 'em and then decide. If you're accustomed to the 2-stroke, you'll probably notice a little bit more weight on top on the 4-stroke - but at speed it'd make no difference. You have to consider terrain too. Here in Colorado the 4-strokes are better suited, and they're taking over the place because of tractability, usable power, ease in riding etc....

Still pinging after all these years...

Im trying to make the same decision as you and I think Im going with the RM250 simply because I love how 2strokes are lighter and how they sound/feel . Ive ridden the 05 RM and it is a gem to ride.
