CHM EXHAUST RIDE REPORT Well, I went ahead and ordered the full CHM exhaust from Ron at Pipe City (great guy). I ordered the all stainless one. I didn't realize how heavy the stock exhaust is or I would have ordered the TI because the CHM is about the same weight. Before I get into the report of the pipe let me tell you about my previous mods. The only mod I had done was a JD kit. I believe for the price that is the best mod for the money. The power improvement was very impressive. The only thing I couldn't get rid of was the popping when I let off the throttle at high RPMs. Believe me I tried everything. Being a guy who can not leave well enough alone I started researching pipes and was going to go with one of the big names like PC or FMF. I read the pipe shootout for the CRF450 and the pipe that did the best was a brand called CHM. I never heard of it, but I've been out of MX for a while. I called CHM and talked to the guy who makes and tests them and he was more than happy to tell me about the pipe. I decided to order one. Boy, I think I'm glad I did. I say think because it might be more than I needed. I immediately noticed the difference off the bottom, but the mid to upper hit was awesome. I thought I had a slick tire on. Gone was the smooth tractibility of the rear tire. Now, I have to be careful not to give it too much throttle or the back end wants to come around on me. The popping I spoke of earlier is also gone. I did go from a 172 main to a 175 and backed off the fuel screw 1 turn for a total of 1.5 turns open. The sound was also pleasant. Not too loud, but I'm not sure of the db's. Anyway, for $400 I am not disappointed at all. And by the way I'm in no way affiliated with CHM. |
